Where: Jewel-Osco
When: Midday Jan 31
Rating: Pleasant

Today is nothing more than a typical day. Today is grocery shopping day. Every other Saturday morning, Nathan Barton, with or without his daughter, will venture out to civilization like any normal human creature word in order to bring food home to his family. Hands were holding onto a box of cereal. He wanted to do something different, something.. 'special' for Raegan, like.. a treat. Something high in sugar, since he was very strict about the types of food they ate (with the exception of Honey Nut Cheerios, since those were both nutritious and sugary enough to be enjoyable on a daily basis.) But on occasion, if only to be perceived as an actually loving parent, well, he had to do those 'special' little things. "Dear, what do you think of these? Chocolate.. for breakfast.. How absurd," he said bluntly, holding out the box of Reeses Pieces cereal for her to see, though, he was quick to flash a smile before setting the box down into their partially filled cart. "Sounds tasty enough though. What are you picking out over there?" he questioned, brows lifting to raise his eyes just slightly above the thinly-rimmed glasses that rested on his nose so he could see over them.

The two would precede to shop like this, bouncing off possible food ideas, what could and couldn't be purchased, and why other things were better purchases than others. Nathan was not a cheap man, but he lived reasonable, and if it did not make sense, then they would not buy it. There was, however, another motive for Nathan's habitual actions at the grocery store, and he was beyond sure that neither his daughter, or his next potential victim, were aware of. See, there's a man, well, if you could even call him that, that would come to this store once a month on a Saturday, sometime during the afternoon. Nathan had caught wind of his attitude one evening after going out to dinner with a few colleagues. The man had been rude, had a bit too much to drink, and well, crazy people just have this sixth sense about them that can pick up another crazy. Kind of like gaydar. The past three months, Nathan had been closely keeping tabs on the man, his habits, places of interests and so forth, until he discovered what it was about him that seemed so peculiar. The man would purchase a large amount of beer once a month, along with other.. unsanitary items in order to bribe, much more than less, young college girls at parties. The man was 43. Now, yes, college students are considered adults, but having a child of his own that was presently attending college? No. A child is a child until they have a child. This man was the reasoning behind the entire trip.

"Do you want anything special for dinner tonight? If so, go pick it out, I'm going to grab us some milk." Milk was in the cooler section. Not too far from the coolers where the beer was kept. See, Aric liked playing memory games with his victims, who usually used the excuse of they couldn't remember incidents or they couldn't remember why things happened.. He also like to unexpectedly bump into them. Let them get a preview of his face before it became their last, because there are few things more satisfying than watching a person's facial expression when they recall their executioner as being some random old man from the grocers... After this little play went down, Aric would return to their cart with the milk in hand, and a smile on his face. And Raegen? Well, she would have no idea of his motives. They were simply shopping.

It was wise of her to only carry around a limited amount of money; no doubt would he have been suspicious, though, again, it would have merely been an act. He didn't care what she did, or what she wore, or if she had 100 piercings, he didn't care for anything really..but he had to pretend. And that meant he was supposed to act suspicious as to where her monetary funds were coming from if they weren't from him or an actual paying job. "A vegetable soup?" He questioned when she dumped her contents into the cart, another smile on his face. Despite how empty he felt, he couldn't lie about his taste buds. His daughter certainly knew how to cook up anything and everything, and he admired how meticulous she was when it came to cooking, a passion he was sure she would have appreciated had she known how meticulous he was during his killings.

"I believe it is. Do you have any plans for the day, Rae? If not, I was thinking we might head out to a movie?" Movies were never interesting for him. But they were, in a sense, documentaries and learning devices of how to act around others. In some occasions, they were life savers. Nathan would begin pushing their shopping cart down the aisle, turning a few corners here and there until he made it out to the check out lane.. And fancy that, behind the man he was here to observe. A small shake of the head was given as he 'looked' at the man's items, nudging at his daughter to take a peek as well before speaking softly, "Now, do you really suppose there is some positive outcome probable from making a purchase like that?" A smug grin managed to sneak its way onto his face, but he quickly shook it off. It was little comments like that that kept him teaching her the differences between rights and wrongs, even though this was probably one they had been over a thousand times.
