Who: Claire and Gulliver
What: Random meetup in a convenient store that gets robbed.
When: ~7pm
Where: Gas Station/Convenient store
Rating: PG

Class had once again been long and boring, and Gully was seriously considering dropping out all together. Why should he bother with school when he could just illusionate anything? He'd taken it upon himself to patrol some bad areas near his home at night, but so far, he hadn't run into any trouble. Right now though, he had the munchies, and the trip from school to home was a long one on his bike, so he opted to make a pit stop at one of the gas stations. He'd fill up his tires a bit before locking the bike up at the rack before heading inside.

It wasn't hard to spot the kid with a bright yellow BMX helmet and a hideously unmatching purple hoodie. Hey, he was a signature kid, what can I say? Sneakers squeaked against the tile as he walked through one of the isles, immediately picking up a bag of beef jerky. That stuff was just too good to resist. Gully noticed that there were other people in the store, but really paid no mind to them. The original owner was at the counter, Gulliver knew this because he was a frequent shopper at this particular place. The boy had just opened up the fridge door to grab himself a coke when he heard something he'd never thought he'd hear before.

Gunshots.

In the store came two men, dressed in the stereotypical black and leather with stupid ski masks on their face. Each one had their own gun. A very, very real gun at that. They were shouting things at the clerk, though the first guy's partner separated from them and started walking the store, pocketing whatever the hell he felt like taking with him until he spotted one of the security cameras. He'd flash it a smile before holding up his gun and blasting it away with a couple of shots.

Meanwhile, upon the first shots initially fired, Gully had dropped to the ground and taken cover as if he were back in grade school, protecting himself from a tornado. After a few moments though, panic and instinct turned into a eureka! He didn't have to worry about getting shot, all he had to do was.. hide. Closing his eyes, Gully rattled his brain, trying to remember every detail of the store so that he could recreate it the area he was in, but leave himself out of the illusion. It was probably the most difficult thing he'd done yet, but his adrenaline was pumping just as fast as his heart. Had anyone ended up near him and was actually looking, well, they'd have just witnessed a boy vanish. Literally.

She wasn't sure just what had convinced her to stop at a gas station of all places on her way home from school. It didn't seem like the most sanitary of places to grab something to drink, but it was conveniently located and besides, it wasn't like she honestly considered herself above shopping there. She didn't even think there were any 'upper-class' convenient stores, and even if there were she would probably go out of her way to avoid them at all costs.

She had grabbed herself a bottle of water and a Milky Way for good measure before approaching the counter to pay for her purchases. The man in front of her had just wished the cashier a good day when the sound of gunfire filled the air and two figures clothed entirely in black entered the store with pistols in hand. CLaire's already-huge eyes widened to further extremes as fear paralyzed every part of her body... even her breathing stilled as she found herself staring down the barrel of one of the weapons. The sound of another blast was accompanied by the sound of broken machinery, and she flinched instinctively and dropped both of the items she had been so ready to buy.

Though Gully was just feet away from her, she did not even notice when he dissapeared completely from view. She was too preoccupied with the man who was telling her to get on the floor. Instead of obeying, she did something else. Something that she swore she would never, ever do. She used her powers in public. Granted, it was more of a compulsive reaction, an act of self-preservation... but the fact remained that it happened.

The gun in the man's hand suddenly and inexplicably turned into a very large terantula. Even behind the mask, the panic and confusion that registered in the burglar's eyes was unmistakeable... Shaking his hand frantically, the spider hit the floor with a metallic clang, and Claire kicked it away, giving the owner of the shop the opportunity to drop his hands and draw his own firearm from behind the counter.

It was at that very inconvenient moment that she found herself blinded by an agonizing migraine; she wailed and staggered back, sending a rack of energy drinks scattering to the floor.

Well, he was going to go try and help the clerk out after pushing himself up from the ground. He had started walking towards the girl, the clerk, and the gunman, though paused, lips parting in sheer amazement/terror at the sudden appearance of a tarantula where the gun used to be. He was pretty sure it wasn't his mind that did that, he hated spiders, would never even think to use them, but maybe he was scared and it just sort of happened that way? Shaking his head, there wasn't any time to think. As he made his way towards the three, he watched the clerk draw up a shotgun, but that second gunman was making his way back to his partner.

Gully took a single step, lips parted as he tried to yell for the girl to watch out, but he wasn't able to. The gunmen, the clerk, and anyone else in the store would simply stop functioning. It was as if someone had to use the restroom during a movie and pressed paused. Gulliver's vision got terribly blurry, and if anyone was even still able to see, his illusion would be ripped to shreds and his body now revealed. While Gully grabbed at his head and screaming in pain, his body crumbled to the ground (thankfully he had a helmet on!)

When both illusions stopped functioning, everyone else seemed to get a grip on reality, though it gave the store clerk enough time to take charge at the two gunmen. Pistol versus a shotgun? Puh-leeze. Everyone knows whose going to win in that fight. The store clerk cocked the shotty and aim, yelling at the two men to leave his store or he'd shoot them both with one shot. After what the two robbers just witnessed and felt, and now with a shotgun aimed at their heads, they didn't have to think twice about fleeing the store.

She was a whimpering mess on the floor, a curtain of blonde hair masking her face as she tried to disentangle herself from the promotion rack she had so gracelessly crash-landed into. She wasn't sure just what had happened.... there was no real way to describe it. But she was positive she never wanted it to happen again.

Carefully sweeping tangled snarls of hair from her face, she made a soft moaning noise when she discovered some of the strands were dyed crimson with blood. A quick swipe of the back of her hand across her upper lip found the source of the problem... a fantastic, gushing nosebleed. Blinking blearily around the gas-station store, she was scarcely aware of the owner threatening the two men from his store, opting instead to focus on the helmeted figure clutching his head in the middle of one of the aisles.

She thought she recognized the eye-aching purple sweatshirt from school, and immediately placed a name to the person to whom it belonged; Gulliver Morris. Had... had she hurt him, too? "Gulliver?" she called weakly, finally staggering to her feet. Oh god, if her powers could hurt people she would NEVER use them again!

It would be fascinating, later on, to dissect these two psyches. She seemed more concerned with the fact she may have hurt people, he was taking a much more logical approach and wondering what he had done wrong, or overdone, though like her, never wanting it to happen again. Everything was.. overdone though, that's what the collision of their powers felt like. Every sense they could tamper with was tampered with a thousand little lightening bolts, and it was excruciating. Once the headache started to not be so mind-numbing, Gulliver was quick to try and rip his helmet off, hoping that would help release some pressure.

And again, like her, the lower part of his mouth and jaw were smeared with blood from his nose, though most of it had been contained in the helmet. How pleasant. Pushing himself up to a sitting position, he waited for his vision to finally clear up a bit before looking up to the blond girl.. YES! He knew she looked familiar. She was younger than him, by 2 years? 3? He couldn't fully remember, but she was definitely from the high school. "One and only.." he said equally as weak, getting back up to both legs before dusting himself off. "Traumatic experiences aren't programmed properly in my head, so I'm a bit jumbled, but what's your name? And are you okay? You're bleeding.." Gully reached down to grab his helmet before looking back up to the blond. He certainly wouldn't be forgetting her name any time soon.

Her eyes widened in horror as he removed his helmet... oh lord, if she looked anywhere near that terrible she just might pass out cold. The entire lower portion of the boy's face was smeared with gore, and she cast another trembling look at the back of her hand before nodding weakly in response to his question regarding her well-being. "Claire," she managed to mutter, "I-I'm Claire Hunter. We go to school together." She wasn't surprised that he didn't know her name... she was not only younger than him, but she also went out of her way at school to fly beneath the radar.

"What happened?" The two of them had obviously shared the same symptoms of...whatever it had been that they'd experienced. Looping some hair behind her ear, she worried nervously at her bottom lip with her teeth, tasted blood, and promptly stopped, looking around for something they could clean off with. The owner was obviously busy talking to the police.

"Used to. Made it out of that school like a bat out of hell, Claire," he said with a sheepish laugh, just trying to make the mood lighter. But yeah, he graduated last year ^^. When she asked what happened, Gully was ready to use his ability again to make her think she was having a flashback recollection of what happened, that didn't involve spiders and powers being used and.. He couldn't. He was trying, but his mind, his brain was just too fried right now that it made him woozy even trying to think about writing the codes in his head. Shaking his head slightly, shoulders rolled. "Not sure. Did he hit you? I fell, probably just knocked my nose on the stupid helmet.." Yeah.. that was a good story on his account. Maybe she'd buy it. Maybe not.

"We should probably get going or else the cops might want to question us in length. Do you want me to walk you home?" They were getting shot at, no one should go home alone after something like that. Besides, the two guys fled, they could still be lurking somewhere waiting to murderface anyone that crossed their path! Especially witnesses! He didn't know what her business was here at the store anyways, or whether or not she had a car, but at least he'd make the offer. Holding up his hand for a second, he motioned for her to wait as he left the aisle they were standing in for another, before returning with some baby wipes. Hey, it was better than having blood crust all over your face. "Here ya go."

"Thankyou." She accepted the baby-wipes and retrieved a few sheets before holding the box out for him to take some as well. "You might want to..." She gestured to her own face and shrugged, then began to carefully wipe the drying blood off.

"I... no, he didn't hit me," she said quietly, looking slightly embarrassed. She could feel something... something like a scratching at the back of her brain, though she couldn't discern the cause of it. "I just... I just fell into the...." she gestured back towards the energy drink rack and once again fell silent, feeling completely awkward. But she most certainly did NOT want to get questioned by the police, and was going to take him up on his offer. "If... if it's not too much trouble, I'd really appreciate it."

Gully took some and started wiping at his own face, hopefully getting a good majority of the blood. At least their noses had stopped bleeding. He took a few more, just to clean off his helmet, both the outside and the inside, before waving for her to follow him over to the counter so they could toss away their trash. Gully left the thing of baby wipes and dug a hand into his pocket, pulling out two dollars and leaving it on the counter. Hey, it would be stealing, and Gully just didn't do that.

Heading towards the entrance/exit, Gully quietly shifted pass the people, activating his power, if anything to cause the others senses to be more interested in whatever they were discussing while he and Claire slipped by. His foot stumbled a bit though. Playing with people's senses was too exhausting of a task right now. But, at least they were out. "I really meant walk, just so you know.. That's my ride," he said with pride as he pointed to the old school Huffy that was chained up. "Do you live far?"

There it was again. THat scratching. Only this time it was more persistant, so distracting that she didn't even see it when he missed his footing. Following his gesture towards the bike, she shook her head. "At least you have that," she said with an absent grin. "No, I don't live very far... Maybe a half mile or so down that way." She flagged an arm half-heartedly in the direction she mentioned, still feeling too drained to put much enthusiasm into the gesture.

Pulling her jacket a bit closer around her, she averted her eyes to the floor as they began the walk. "So... so do you go to college now?" It was almost hard to hear her, her voice was so low.

Unchaining his baby, the spiraled the cord around the crotch bar and hooked his helmet onto one of the handles, pulling the bike towards him so they could start walking in the direction she pointed to. He would have offered for her to get onto the pegs and he'd peddle her home, but fuck, there just wasn't any energy to do that right now.

"Yeah, more or less. I dunno. Just kinda coasting right now. Community isn't anything special or new. Its high school. But for big kids and no lockers. Oh, and so much more alcohol and drugs openly passed around. Yeaup. Pretty sweet place to be. I think I'm quitting tomorrow." It was something he'd been thinking about ever since he learned of his ability. Why bother with school? He could be doing so much more to help people with what he had. "How's the high school? Still churning out zomboid athletes and shunting away the theatre nerds?" Stephanie still went to their school, but he was just keeping the conversation going. Oh! "Hey, do you know Stephanie Barker? She goes to the school too."

She had to think about it, but finally she nodded. "Yes. Well... I don't know her, exactly, but... well, she's older, right?" She was sure she had seen the girl in passing. Afterall, it wasn't a particularly big school. She walked leisurely with him, being in no great rush to get back home even after everything that had happened that day. Every once in a while she would tentatively reach up to touch her nose as though afraid it would begin gushing again... such a thing had never happened when she used her powers before, and she was actually very nervous that she had perhaps blown out a part of her brain or something.

"School is..." she thought about it, then grinned rather cheekily. "Well, it's actually exactly like you said. If college is anything like that, then I don't blame you for dropping out." Silence ensued, and then in an uncharacteristic show of conversational skill, she asked, "What will you do then?"
