Who: Dawn Bassler and her least favorite cousin Amora Alkeinos
What: Dawn was unaware of the 'don't tell Amora' pact.
When: During all the insanity.
Where: Phonecall!
Rating: R for language.

-riiiiiiiiiiiing-

"Hello."

-clears throat- "Amora. It's Dawn."

"Ah. I see. It's been a while, hasn't it?"

"It has. I'm calling about...Alena."

-long pause, voice sounds oddly breathless- "Okay."

"It seems that some less than savory people finally caught up with her, and..." -grumbles- "Fuck it. Look, those two psychos who had it in for your sister found her. They killed the chick that runs the bakery down town, and really fucked up Alena and Miss Dreyfus."

"Where is she?"

"Safe."

"Your merry fucking band of rejects couldn't keep her safe before, what makes things any different now? None of you would have even know that Grant and Asher were looking to get back at Alena if I didn't say anything! What steps did your little super crew take in order to try to prevent this?"

"Damn it, Amy. I'm hardly involved with this at all. The only reason I'm even here is because your brother came to me for support. I have no idea what they did or didn't do."

-frustrated- "He comes to YOU for support when I'm the one here trying to --" -pause- "Well, have they gotten to him yet?"

"No, he's here with me."

"With you? Right now? Put him on the phone."

"He's asleep. Give the kid a break, he's had a long day."

"Let's hope his dreams aren't descriptive."

"From what I can tell, they knocked the two psychos out and left them on their bosses porch."

"Whoever made that decision should be drawn and quartered. They're sneaky bastards, and if Elkins doesn't buy into what they say, they're right back out. And who's to say that they wouldn't have woken up before someone noticed that they were there, either?" -irritated- "Are you going to tell me where my siblings are so that I can give them some real protection or are you going to continue playing Super Friends until they're murdered?"

"I already told you, I'm not involved in any of the decision making around here." -also irritated- "Alvin is staying at my place. Alena is being seen too. But just how do you plan on giving them real protection. Junior told me what kind of people you've buddied up with."

"Your inaction is a decision, Dawn, and you are quite involved. I've buddied up with the people that are clearly on top in order to keep myself and my family safe. If Alena and Alvin were with me, I would see to it that no one would touch them. It's a little more difficult to do from a distance, especially considering how inept the people that they're buddying up with are."

"My inaction?!? I realize how easy it must be for all of you to play superhero, but I have a fucking child to think about. So you're right. I'm not that involved. But only because the last thing I need is some freak to come after my little girl." -deep breath- "You think your friends can keep them safe? Criminals? Really, Amora. I thought you were smarter than that."

"By choosing to allow that little cheerleading squad to maintain custody of Alena, you're making the decision that could very well lead to her death. If you were to relinquish her to my care, she would be safe. Don't patronize me or question my methods, because they work just as they've always worked. I'm safe, just as my siblings should be."

"I'm not choosing to allow them anything. This is Alena's decision, and Alvin's. I don't have fucking custody of them, so there's no real way for me to relinquish them to what I'm so sure would be your excellent care. And just how safe are you? Do you seriously trust these people?"

"I'm very safe. I don't need to trust anyone but myself. It's all about knowing where the stepping stones are, though it's difficult to ignore the fact that Alena and Alvin are missing every single one. If they don't start following my advice, they'll die very soon. If not by the hand of Grant or Asher, then by someone else. They just aren't careful." -slight pause- "None of them are. I've been looking out for the two of them, but it's all I can really do. It doesn't help much when they aren't listening, either."

"I just....I see this from their point of view. These people you've partnered up with, the don't make your intentions look good."

"I have always done what I had to do in order to get by. Normally, I don't care very much what happens to those who can't adapt themselves in the same respect. This is different. This is -- I just can't watch them dance off of the edge of a cliff."

"They think they're doing the right thing, joining up with the people that they have. I don't think you'll be able to change their minds."

"They're going to die if they continue in this way. If they didn't believe me before, they'll believe me now." -pause- "Thank you for your call. I appreciate it. Ask Alena and Alvin to call me at their leisure."

"I'll do the best I can to look after them, but phasing isn't the most offensive power." -sighs- "I will. Even if they don't...I'll keep you updated."

"Thank you." -long pause, clears throat- "...I know that they want to paint me as a bad guy, but I'm only trying to look out for them. You know I've always done that. Maybe the situation was never so amplified as it is now, but that doesn't make it any different."

"The only bad guys I know of are these Capulet and Lehtner idiots who did this to Allie. I know you're looking out for them but..they're not kids anymore. They'll make their own decisions, prima, and there's not a lot you can do about that."

-laughs drily- "You don't know the half of it." -click-
