Who: Dylan Hayes and Evan Elkins What: A turning point When: Tuesday afternoon Where: The Elkins' Estate
Going over to the Elkinses' to ice skate had turned into something of a ritual for Dylan. With the holiday season over with he'd taken less hours at the Olive Garden and had more free time. Every day after driving home from school, Dylan would take the skates Evan had given him for Christmas out of the front closet of his new apartment, sling them across his back by their laces, and fly over to the expansive mansion. It had gotten to be such a routine that he'd actually begun to learn some of the staff by name. This endeared him to them, and these days they'd seemed almost happy to see him. He liked this time he had to skate. Diving practice was getting hectic and stressful, and kept being pushed to earlier and earlier hours of the morning. It was good to have this time to relax. Some days, like today, Evan didn't show up until Dylan had been skating for quite some time. He'd been skating for about fifteen minutes when the lack of sleep and constant physical grind began to catch up with him. With no one around, he was content with settling himself down on the ice.
It would be a bitch to stand up again in skates - he wasn't very good - but he could always fly.
