Who: Dylan Hayes and Open What: Holiday mania sets in When: Monday evening Where: The Olive Garden
While some members of the restaurant's staff had decided to take advantage of the sympathy of the Holiday Season to take their days off, Dylan Hayes had no religion to speak of, and no one to take time off to be with. Mao was still grounded, and Dylan didn't have the energy to brave the cold to fly over to his home. Bill was a big blank spot, Dylan hadn't communicated with him recently, and he hardly wanted to risk hearing Brendan Prince on the other end of the line. He knew that the author would contact him eventually about the apartment he was to be moved to, but he very much doubted that it would take precedent over their love fest. His other acquaintances seemed wrapped up in their lives, Emily couldn't or wouldn't speak to him, so he did the only other logical thing to; he threw himself into his job. He'd spent quite a lot of time in the past figuring out little ways to trick people into thinking he was a fairly well-adjusted person and now it seemed that actually using those acting skills on customers was playing out in a positive way. His tips had increased and he knew he was more productive when he didn't waste time rolling his eyes at misplaced orders or badly dressed middle aged women. He'd even found himself talking in a childish voice to a baby accompanying a warm fuzzy feeling, which, in the past, would have been immeadiately replaced with an acute sensation of nausea.
Periodically he would take a short break to the service restroom to splash his face with cold water and stare frowningly at the mirror. Then he would look down to the ring finger on his right hand, rub at the oddly blank ring on his finger, contemplating the strange technology that had allowed him to break the sound barrier without making a sound. He was on one such break when he caught himself staring for an extended period of time. He looked .. strangely different. Healthier? There was a definite color to his cheeks that hadn't been there before, to be sure.
