Entry tags:charles elkins, december, rated pg-13, rebecca fenhell

WHO: Rebecca Fenhell and Charles Elkins (Possibly Evan later on)
WHAT: A chit-chat
WHERE: Water-treatment center
WHEN: Thursday late afternoon
RATING: PG-13 for now.

Having been told Charles Elkins wanted to see her, Rebecca immediately finished up what bit of organizing she'd been doing in favor of heading up to the office. After she'd worked off some energy at the park with her dogs she'd returned home, studied, showered and slipped into her work attire which consisted of a nice pair of slacks and a V-necked, striped sweater under which she wore a collared shirt so the collar would stick out from under the v-neck and give her a professional but sporty look. She greeted Elkins' secretary, Becky, with a little smile and exchanged pleasantries.

Once Elkins had been told Rebecca was there, the young woman sort of straightened out her clothes and brushed off some non-existent dirt off of her sweater. She waited patiently to be told she could enter his office.

"Rebecca," Charles smiled and ushered her in as Becky let the red head into his office. "I'm glad you're here, I have a few questions for you." He watched as the younger woman took a seat, narrowing his eyes only momentarily before sitting down himself across from her. "I've been looking at our monthly reports," and he brought a blue file folder forward setting it down on top of his desk. "And August's is missing," he raised an eyebrow and handed the folder to her.

He'd determined that August must have been the chemical spill, and clearly if the month was missing it, the spill must not have been accidental at all.

"I was actually goin' ta send you an e-mail 'bout that, sir." Rebecca answered, elegantly dropping down into the chair in front of Charles' desk, her hands in her lap, ankles crossed. "Guess it slipped me mind, but I thought it right strange that there was a whole month missing. I'm still going ta keep an eye out for it, don't you worry." The young woman offered a slightly comforting smile.

"I'm sure it'll turn up. I could always ask about, see if anyone has any idea where it could have gotten, yea?"

"Hmm," Charles say in consideration keeping his eye on her. He didn't necessarily thing she had anything to do with it, but it was someone on his staff, and he would discover who. "I appreciate that Rebecca, and do pay attention to any reactions to such a question," he leaned back into his chair, folding his arms.

"And how has your internship been thus far?"

"Oh, I will. You suspecting someone stole it, Mr. Elkins?" That was a strange thing to think. Who would want the August report? And if they wanted it, why not just make copies to keep off the suspicion? Huh. Mentally shrugging off the thought she returned her full attention to Charles, reaching up to tuck some of her hair behind her ear.

"Quite good, sir." The young woman smiled, eyes glimmering slightly. "I'm really thankful for the opportunity, yea? Real nice of you to let me get a first hand look at business administration."

"It's possible, though I'm sure it was just misplaced," he gave a wan smile. He had no intention of letting his suspicions known, especially not to a new intern. She did seem rather eager to please however...

"Well I'm glad, I think anyone interested in making something of themselves should have such an opportunity," and he gave her a real smile. It was interesting, she had the same interest as Evan but Charles felt that Evan needed more challenges, to truly prove himself to Charles. "Have you met my son?" he asked as an after thought.

"Can't say I've met any other Elkins but yourself, sir. Only know your wife by sight, never stirred up a conversation so that would be a no." The young woman smiled a little in return, shifting to get a bit more comfortable in the chair simply because it seemed she was going to be there for at least a little while longer.

"However, I'm sure I've probably seen him 'bout, yea? He work here too?"

"Mmm yes, Lillian," and Charles said it as naturally as possible. His 'wife' and he were on better terms, he still had zero trust in her, and she seemed determined to show him up. It was all an amusing game to him, one he was thoroughly enjoying.

He frowned slightly with distaste at her grammar but then nodded. "He dos, he's going to be taking over the Boston branch as soon as he proves himself. Bern should be an excellent test for him." After a moment his controlled facade broke for a proud smile, "he has excellent business sense. Of course he still thinks emotionally but that will be hammered out with better experience." He sniffed and cleared his throat. "It might benefit him if you were to work closely with him..." the idea trailed off and Charles looked away for a moment. "I find that his shadowing of older associates ends badly, and while you aren't well adversed in my business yet, you two may learn from each other." He was feeling generous today. Go figure.

Really it wasn't bad grammar as much as it was simply her dialect. Back home it would be considered the status quo. However here in America she'd faced some weird looks at her inability to speak Americanized English. It didn't really bother her though because she would speak however she wished; her words and ideas were still intelligent, just put differently.

Becca was slightly amused and also a bit touched at how proud Charles seemed of his son, even if it did remind her of her own father and how he'd doted hand and foot on her older sister and never on her. Though she supposed Evan was probably an only child, which made it okay for his father to put so much attention into him.

"Well, sir, I'm up for learning." The young woman laughed a little, eyebrows raising. "I wouldn't mind meeting your son. I'm sure he'd probably teach me more 'bout the business anyway which s'always good."

"Good," and Charles picked up a file on his desk, with a brief overview from his manager at Bern. The man had sent a letter underlying the aspects Evan would need to be looking at upon initial arrival. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd like you to take this to him, he'll be at my estate in Bristol," and he pressed the speaker for Becky's desk. "Rebecca, could you give Miss.Fenhell the address to the estate," and he didn't bother waiting for a reply as he stood from his chair. "If you have any problems you may call the office," he said as he walked her to the door.

"Make sure you look into the June report," and he took on a more steely tone, "I'd very much like to look at it. Goodbye Rebecca."

Standing even as Elkins was speaking with his secretary, the young woman smiled faintly and moved to the door as she was practically ushered out, the folder in hand.

"Goodbye, Mr. Elkins." Becca stated politely before looking to Becky and getting the written address from her. She thanked the secretary and then headed to the elevator and eventually left the building after clocking out. Her mind was swimming with curious thoughts.

What had happened to the August report? Obviously, even if Elkins had hid his true interest in the report well, it was still of some importance. Could it have something to do with the abilities that seemed to be popping up everywhere? So many questions, so few answers and now she had to focus on the task at hand.

So getting onto a city bus with her purse slung over her shoulder and the paper with the directions in her hand she made her way over to the Elkins' estate to meet the infamous Evan Elkins.
