WHO: Dietre and Gabe.
WHAT: D realizes that staying in the dark might not be a good idea. He needs some information.
WHEN: Monday night-ish?
WHERE: At the OG because all of Dietre's threads are there practically!

Fuck. Seriously. He had been wanting to avoid all of this...this...whatever having powers meant. But apparently he was a complete fool and had to get semi (hardly even, in his opinion) involved with someone, who, it seems to be turning out, was not all that nice. What was Dylan's problem, anyway? What had Dietre done that warranted getting thinly veiled threats made in his direction? Was it that big of a deal that he had turned down being part of Dylan's group, whatever it was?

All he knew, was that now he was going to have to do some research, for his own protection. Of course, he hadn't really been threatened or anything. It was just...there wasn't something right about Dylan. Dietre didn't feel comfortable being left in the dark anymore. And if there was anyone who might know what was going on with his co-worker, well, it'd be a mind reader. Surely Gabe could give him information, or find things out, right? But was it a good idea to trust him? Dietre had likely ruined all chances at keeping himself a secret when he confessed his powers to Dylan, so talking to Gabe couldn't be taking that big of a risk. And anyway, maybe he already knew.

BloodyfuckingHell. He was supposed to be happy this week. He was going to celebrate Thanksgiving. With Robin. Why did he have to get this thrown at him to worry about?

He spent almost his whole shift wondering how he was going to talk to Gabe. How should he word it? What should he do? He didn't want anyone to know ('anyone' meaning Dylan, mostly).

There was only one way to get Gabe's attention without anyone overhearing. He just had to think.

'Gabe. I would like to discuss something with you...Its about Dyan. But I need to know. Can you keep a secret? '

Gabe was carrying a tray of empty dishes, just a few feet away from Dietre when he heard his voice in his head. This, of course, wasn't strange at all. It wasn't even strange for thoughts to be directed toward him, though it was usually in the form of nasty commentary on his driving from the other drivers on the road, or somebody's unsavory opinions about him, or in the case of the (married) woman at table twelve, somebody's very savory opinions about him. He didn't really like the idea of becoming the seventh person she'd cheated on her husband with, even if he hadn't had a girlfriend.

What was strange was that Dietre meant him to hear his thoughts. If Gabe had been a less-experienced waiter, he would've dropped the tray he was holding altogether, but he managed to catch it before he sent everything on it crashing to the floor. Once he regained his balance and set down the tray, he looked over at his coworker oddly. "Sounds like some people can't," Gabe muttered under his breath. Fucking Dylan. Just because he felt the need to go around announcing his powers didn't mean Gabe wanted everybody and their brother to know he read minds. Despite his annoyance at Dylan, though, he nodded once to Dietre in confirmation.

Dietre looked over only long enough to catch Gabe's subtle nod. This was really...he didn't have words. Poor Gabe was likely now under a barrage of jumbled German and English as Dietre tried to get his thoughts in order. There was only so much he wanted to reveal, knowing that someone could be in your head was enough to induce a kind of mental panic as he struggled for the best way to hide what he didn't want to be seen and push what needed to be discussed to the front. It was hard enough for him to say things he wanted to say to people, but to have to keep his mind focused for communicating was another thing entirely.

'He can't know that I'm talking to you. As soon as we get off of work, can we meet somewhere? ...I'm putting a lot of trust into you..'

He'd seen that kind of panic before; it was why he didn't go around telling people left and right that he was a goddamn telepath. Honestly, it was useless for them to try. Given enough time and concentration, Gabe could pull out memories and such pretty easily. It was stuff like feelings that was the hard part.

Gabe almost laughed, looking around in Dietre's mind. Telling D what he wanted to know would require Gabe to put a lot of trust in him. But it seemed that Dylan had sucked the poor kid in already. "Hey, D. Heard you were fishin' for a ride home? I can take you," he said casually, making sure that Dylan's mental presence was nowhere within earshot before he spoke.

This one way mind conversation was kind of frustrating, but it was the only way he could do this and stay under Dylan's radar. Good God, why was he feeling so paranoid? Nothing had even really happened! It was just...the combined bad impression he got glimpses of in journal exchanges people had with Dylan. Dietre suspected many of the conversations continued privately after those first few tension filled comments that had been left exposed.

He looked up from wiping down a table, nervousness lurking under the cool mask of his expression.

"Yes, actually." A pause. "Its a bit cold to be walking this time of night.." A shifting of his mouth that suggested he was going to try to smile, but his discomfort won out, and he bit at his lower lip instead.

Gabe did smile reassuringly. "Alright then. You're off in thirty, right?" he asked, picking the information quickly from D's head. "I'll swing by the front."

He turned and went about his work then, seething silently for the next half hour while trying to avoid the lecherous thoughts of the woman at table twelve. When Gabe managed to escape, he took up residence in his car, the heat thankfully functional today. He turned up the radio and drummed his fingers on the steering wheel in time with the song as he waited, scanning the thoughts of the people inside as he did. Gabe was getting pretty good at this multitasking thing.

Dietre nodded, then suffered through quite the agonizing thirty minutes. He was half convinced that Dylan was going to find out about this, and he was sorely tempted to tell Gabe to just forget it. It was too late now though, Gabe was out there waiting in his car already. D had to go through with it.

Once his shift ended, he made his way out, hoping he didn't look suspicious or something while he walked to Gabe's car. Everything was normal...everything was fine...there was no reason for anyone to take interest in him. He was still telling himself these things even as he sat down in the passenger seat, giving Gabe a sheepish sort of look.

"..Thank you. I'm sorry about..about...knowing. Dylan told me, but I haven't told anyone else.." Half true. He had mentioned to Robin about being told about Gabe reading minds, but he never gave his name. And besides, Robin was a very good person, he could be trusted, Dietre had no doubts about that.

"...Since this is about Dylan, I'm sure you can guess that..uhm..I can do something too."

"No sweat," Gabe replied, turning down the music and shifting into drive. "I just...don't advertise it. For obvious reasons." That made him tense, that he hadn't picked up on the fact that Dietre knew, and that Dylan was going around telling people.

He pushed his hair out of his eyes as he pulled out of the parking lot. "Tell me which way to go. And yeah, I figured. So Dylan tried to recruit you, huh? And you said no. Smart move."

"I don't advertise either, only three people know...and I'd like to keep it that way." It seemed the language barrier had helped keep Gabe in the dark, he supposed that was something to be glad about.

"Uhm..I don't live too far away. Turn left at the next street and keep going for a bit.."

He cleared his throat, still unsure of how to begin.

"He offered, but I wasn't sure...He said he had a group of people, 'associates' of his, that were going about protecting themselves, you know, if the world found out about what's going on here.."

Now it was time to start naming names, and he really hoped this wasn't going to backfire on him.

"I would have joined, but he was very vague, and changed the subject far too quickly.." To flirt and make some sort of attempt at seduction, but Gabe didn't need to know about that.

".. I wanted to know a bit more about him, so I talked to Cait online, they seemed like they were friends. She said not to get involved, and was about as vague as Dylan." A pause and he scowled suddenly.

"What is he doing? Why would he act as though I don't have a choice about joining him or not? He said I could 'decline when he was done with me'."

Gabe listened to all of this, a mild expression on his face and for all appearances, completely not fussed. He followed Dietre's directions toward his house, and only spoke when he was finished talking. "Hm. Well, as I'm sure you might've guessed, there are more of us. A lot more, actually. And Dylan's not the only one trying to organize. The part about the world finding out what's going on? Nobody wants that. But nobody wants to follow an eighteen-year old psychopath to go about that, either. Well, at least nobody who doesn't buy into his lies.

"I'm part of a different organization. One that's kept Dylan from killing at least three people so far, and hasn't stopped him from killing two. You might've noticed he and I aren't exactly friends. That's why. It's hard to be cool with somebody who's pointed a gun at you."

"He's killed people?" Dietre began to feel a little sick to his stomach, but also relieved he had not agreed to join. Dylan could claim he had no choice, but if he thought that he was going to force him to do anything, even with the threat of guns, he had another thing coming.

"...I could have been his friend, luckily I'm too pessimistic, I guess." If that made any sense. This was the first time his doubts that anyone could honestly like him paid off, who would have thought?

"I don't want to be involved, I just want him to leave me alone." He ran his fingers through his hair, more emotion on his face then Gabe had likely ever seen there before. D was not at all happy.

"..What I do could hardly be useful to anyone.." So why should Dylan care? Could it be that it was that in declining to join, he was also rejecting Dylan in other ways? The boy was mad if he thought D was going to sleep with him based on attraction alone.

"Hate to be the bearer of bad news, man," Gabe began, "but you're in this whether you like it or not, sounds like. Dylan's incredibly persistent, and he's taken an interest in you. He's not gonna let go." The kid still hadn't let up on Emily, after she'd been refusing to cooperate with him for months now.

Gabe shook his head. "So what's your thing? Power. Whatever."

Fine. He could deal with Dylan. He wasn't afraid of getting hurt. But if Dylan did anything to Robin out of jealousy or...or whatever, then there would be a problem. A very, very big problem.

"..Why hasn't anyone gone to the police? Not having evidence isn't an excuse. If he can't be put away, he could be slowed down at the very least. And if something did happen one day, because he was mentioned to police, he'd be a suspect." Ah, there goes Dietre and his logic again.

"I can project an image..with my mind. Like a hologram, I suppose. ...A very realistic hologram."

Gabe glanced over at Dietre briefly. "We can't attract attention to ourselves. The government's already onto some of us... Personally, I don't want to wake up one day to find some scientist probing around in my brain. They figure out what's going on, they'll round us up for experimentation, or just because they're scared of us. Some of us are capable of some pretty scary stuff. And most people...don't like what I can do." He smiled wryly, knowing that Dietre was one of them.

"A hologram?" Gabe thought about that for a moment. "Is it...tangible?"

Dietre was silent for a moment, mulling this over. He supposed Gabe had a point about not attracting attention, but wouldn't Dylan feel the same way? He'd be a fool to use his powers against police. Well then, there was only one real solution left, wasn't there?

"If you can't bring in outsiders, then...seeing how Dylan's murdered people, isn't killing him justifiable?" Who, having lost some one, could sit around knowing their killer was free, and unpunished? An eye for an eye. Dylan taking a life meant his own is forfeited.

"Tangible? No. Nothing I make can be touched...so far, who knows?"
