Evan fucking Elkins. ([info]chaseme) wrote in [info]badwater_ooc,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Evan and Emily
What: Oh. The usual. One of them is drunk and the other one is NOT.
Where: Emily's apartment
When: Tonight
Rated: Probably R for Evan's mouth

Evan opened the car door and shrugged his driver off. The man had insisted on taking Evan anywhere but home, especially after what had transpired that night. It had seemed that Charles was extremely disappointed in his son. Evan wasn't doing so great in school. Not for lack of smarts. Mostly for lack of trying. He'd been distracted lately and wasn't exactly sure if he still wanted to take over his father's business. Would that make him more like his father than he ever wanted to be? It was something that Evan had been thinking about alot lately. Mostly because Emily continued to bring up how alike to Charles he was. And how much she didn't like it.

Course, he wasn't trying to impress her or anything, was he? No. He'd decided on his own that his father was not exactly a loving individual and under no circumstances did he want to become him. It was a terrible epiphany but one he needed to have, all the same.

And his relationship with Charles was on thin ice lately anyways. What with Evan quitting the Varsity track team when he had a chance to go on to the Olympics. Not to mention, he was the Captain, and Elkins just didn't quit anything. But, the trophys were long gone-- thrown away in the trash months ago. And Evan wasn't about to start doing anything just because his father wanted him to. Not anymore at least.

"Emily?" Evan pounded on her front door, the bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand sliding dangerously out of his grasp. He adjusted his grip just before the glass was able to slip from his fingers. He didn't want to lose all that good liquid. Instead, he took a swig and pounded again. "Emily? Are you asleep?" He screwed the cap back on the bottle and stuck it in his back pocket. Pulling out a lighter, he plucked a cigarette that he'd been keeping behind his ear and lit it. He took a deep inhale and pounded once more.

"My dad and I got in a fight. I didn't want to go home. He's probably waiting up for me just so he can tell me what a stupid fuck I am." He snorted. Let the poor bastard wait all night. Evan didn't plan on going home. "Anyways. I'm twenty one. What twenty one year old doesn't drink on a Sunday night?"

He toed his shoes off and lifted his feet onto the couch.

Emily sighed. Evan's dad had never been her favorite person, but it was pretty much impossible for her to do anything about him. If she insulted him, Evan got annoyed, and she never felt the need to boost Mr. Elkins' esteem. The guy was a loveless asshole, and he was slowly destroying Evan, whether he realized it or not.

"Ones who have class tomorrow," she replied with a weak smile. "What was the fight about? Spending too much time with your ex-girlfriend?"

"Bad grades. But he doesn't understand. I can't get good grades on speeches I have to give orally if I'm not there to give them. He won't let me go back to normal classes. He wants to keep me under his watchful eye. It's stupid. David's in Boston and I'm stuck here. I don't even know if I want the company business anymore. If it'll just turn me into my dad..." He drifted off thoughtfully before taking another sip of his Jack.

"Anyways. I don't have class tomorrow."

She sighed. "I know this kind of makes me a hypocrite, but drinking really doesn't help that situation any. It kind of gives your dad more to go off of." She offered a weak smile. "And you know you're too fucking smart to be getting bad grades, Evan, so maybe he was right to yell at you for once. Just because you've got super powers doesn't mean you shouldn't get an education, too."

She quirked a brow at him. "No? Well, I do. But not until two, so you can crash here if you need to. You didn't drive yourself here, did you?"

He waved her off. If she was going to scold him, he didn't want any part of it.

"Nah. My driver did. He insisted. He probably didn't know where else to take me. I didn't want to go home."

Emily's brows furrowed. "He didn't think to take you to your girlfriend's house?" she asked. For how much she and Evan weren't dating it certainly seemed like it sometimes, and Emily wasn't entirely sure how she felt about that.

"So... Did you want to talk about it?"

"He doesn't know where she lives." Plus, the driver sort of preferred Emily to any of his other girlfriends previously. A new one wasn't likely to change that. "And no. I don't."

He took another large gulp of Jack.

"Emily. Why do you talk to me?"

"Yeah, but you do. Though I suppose your sense of direction isn't at it's best at the moment, is it?" She offered a weak smile as she gently plucked the bottle from his hands, setting it out of his reach on her side of the coffee table.

"Sometimes I ask myself that question," she teased, but it wasn't entirely joking. Emily sometimes wondered why she was so masochistic that she somehow kept ending up attached to him again when it was obvious they weren't good for each other. All they ever did was make each other angry. "I don't know, Evan. I guess because I want to make sure you're okay." She hesitated. "...Are you okay?"

He looked at her with sad eyes. "Do I look okay Emily? I can't think of anything fucking worse. I mean, fuck. I hate my father." Evan's fists clenched.

Emily felt her stomach tighten despite herself. It wasn't healthy to be so emotionally involved with someone who... well, claimed to be in love with you while dating someone else, but her defenses melted, as they always did, with the look in his eyes.

"You don't hate him," she said with a soft sigh. "You're angry with him. Everyone gets angry with their father."

"Not me. Not ever." He wanted to punch something. Preferably a wall. But he wasn't about to make extra work for the girl sitting in front of him by breaking through some drywall.

"I'm such a disappointment to him. He hates me."

"Look, Evan..." She wasn't entirely sure how to word what she wanted to say, especially with him in a drunken state. These types of things could be taken in completely opposite ways, polar ends of the spectrum, depending on which way the liquor swung him.

"Your dad doesn't hate you. He's your father, and he loves you, even if he has trouble showing it sometimes. Some people are just... like that. They don't know how to love, and they end up hurting the ones they care most about."

Evan shrugged.

"Stop defending him. You don't even like him."

"No," she agreed with a weak smile. "I don't like him, but you like him, and well, I like you." She managed a small laugh. "Well, sometimes anyway." She generally preferred him sober.
