The Best Way to Spend New Year's Eve
Who: Aiden and Eddie
Where: Eddie's Apartment
When: New Year's Eve
"You don't mind being here tonight?" Eddie asked Aiden, opening up the door to his small apartment to let her inside. It was New Years Eve, and while he didn't hold with such social conventions personally, he had to figure that she would. She was a much brighter personality than him (as far as he was concerned). He wouldn't have minded so much if Aiden wanted to go out and enjoy the night 'properly'.
“Dude, no one should be alone on New Year’s.” Aiden voiced as she stepped into her BFFs apartment. “Just be forewarned that your phone will be ringing at the stroke of midnight.” Aiden cautioned then, with her family knowing she was spending the night at Eddie’s apartment, Aiden knew that each member of her family would be calling to share in their happiness that the new year had arrived.
"Well, I might take the phone off of the hook then," he joked. He wasn't that mean spirited, though. Frankly, he was glad to spend tonight with someone that he could stand to be around. Hrm, was he forgetting something? Oh, right! "Drink. Did you want a drink?"
“Do that and you’ll have more company here tonight then you ever imagine.” Aiden laughed good naturedly then. “Maybe later, you did remember to get a bottle of non alcoholic champagne, didn’t you?” Knowing her dear friend as well as she did that little task could very well have slipped his mind.
"I think that I did that last week," he told her, scratching the back of his head. It was on his 'to do' list, at any rate. "It's probably around somewhere," he added, giving her a sheepish smile.
“Goof.” She teased, giving his shoulder a bump with her own. If he thought he had picked a bottle up, he most likely had. They just now had to locate it before the stroke of midnight. “So,” Aiden stepped away from him then to plop herself down on the sofa, the young were stretching her legs out then to rest her feet on the low table. “What’s in the agenda for tonight, my big cuddly, snuggly bear.” She inquired with a the flash of a big ole grin and glance over to her friend.
He gave her a cute little scowl when she called him 'cuddly, snuggly bear', but couldn't hold the expression and was soon smiling as he walked over and plopped onto the sofa beside her. Well, one says 'plop', he more or less jumped onto the sofa next to her. "I was just thinking movies," he told her. "But we could play a video game, too. I'm sure that you can beat me at at least one of them," he teased.
“Video games?” Aiden scrunched her nose cutely at the thought, “I thought this was suppose to be a fun night in.” She teased with an adorable smile to the guy. Movies most likely would have her falling asleep against Eddie before midnight came around, video games on the other hand would be a way to keep her mind stimulated, and Aiden awake to actually celebrate in the new year.
It took him a few seconds to catch on to the fact that she was joking and he smiled. "You're my guest, so we can do anything you want," he told her. He'd been taught those things a lot during his childhood. It was just a matter of whether he'd remember them on any given day. He stifled a yawn in his palm. That was the thing that he hated about being a Werebear in Winter - he was just tired a lot of the time. "Promise."
“Bring the video games on then.” She grinned, not missing the yawn he tried to conceal. A movie, at least now, was out of the question as Aiden wanted them both to make it to midnight. “I’m ready to kick some werebear butt.”
It certainly wasn't that he wasn't enjoying the company! It was just at this time of year he was generally tired, but like all things, he knew that it would pass. "How does 'Blur' sound?" He asked. It was a racing game that had real world cars, sure, but it also had elements of Mario Kart to it, so they could use elements of the game against each other.
“Dude, you are totally on.” Aiden relieved that he hadn’t chosen one of the fighting/bloody battling games. While she didn’t mind any of those games, Aiden tended to prefer the racing games as opposed to the ones where the characters got shot and/or killed.
Eddie liked fighting games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, sure, but there had to be some level of strategy with the racing games. He grinned at her and set his game up on the console before giving her one of the controllers and sitting down next to her again. Most kids would have gone out on New Years Eve, and Eddie might have as well had Aiden asked, but just the same he was happy to be at home with her.
Aiden, almost greedily, accepted the controller from her, the girl pulling her legs toward her to cross them under her as she shifted herself into a better position to play the game. “No cheating this time.” She told him sternly, though teasing completely. Not that he ever seemed to try, Aiden herself seemed to be the one to try and be sneaky while playing these games of his. And while she could have dragged him out that night, Aiden was more then content to spending the night with Eddie in his apartment.
"Isn't that the point?" Eddie said with a laugh, getting comfortable as well as they settled for what would likely be a few hours of gaming. He figured that they'd do some kind of celebration closer to midnight with their non-alcoholic champagne.
Aiden stuck her tongue out at him then. It didn’t take long though for the two to go into competitive mode. The hours seemed to fly by then as the played a couple rounds of the racing game, and then switched to one of Eddie’s favorites.
At about fifteen minutes to midnight, Aiden and Eddie were both in his kitchen fixing up snacks to munch on while the drank glasses of non alcoholic champagne. “I should make you suffer through Thelma and Louise.” Aiden joked as she finished up popping up some popcorn, which once the fluffy puff where in a large bowl where drenched with melted butter and then lightly salted.
"Well, it's just well that I don't actually own that," Eddie said to her, poking his tongue out at her playfully. Thelma and Louise wasn't his idea of a good time, but he had to figure that she'd suffered through some things that he liked, so it was only fair to do the same for her. "Do you want to go out to watch the fireworks?" He asked. While Beaconsfield didn't have the funds for a show like a major city, they did still let off a few fireworks on New Year's Eve.
“Well, you do have a great view of the fireworks from the roof of your building.” She suggested. The building was close enough to where they’d be setting off the fireworks so that they’d have a good view and not have to shell out a dime to watch the display.
"Well, okay then," he said, grabbing for her hand enthusiastically. "Let's go up, then." Now that she'd suggested it, it was what he wanted to do. "We don't want to miss it."
Aiden actually ‘eeped’ when Eddie grabbed her hand and started pulling her out of the kitchen, the dark haired were managing to grab the champagne bottle on their exit. Glasses weren’t really needed as this wouldn’t be the first time they’d be drinking from the same container. And while some might be put off by some of Eddie’s ways, such as this, his little quirks were what Aiden loved most about her BFF. “We still have a couple minutes, not going to miss anything Eddie.” She said with a soft little laugh.
"Well, I'd rather not take my chances!" He said, looking over his shoulder at her briefly to flash her a grin. Exiting his apartment he led her upstairs to the roof two steps at a time. Fortunately he didn't live in a high rise apartment, so it was a brief trip. Once up there he made sure to wedge the door open, least the accidentally lock themselves up there. They could see a good portion of the town when they were up there, where the parties were and so on. It was a cold night, but at least the stars shone brightly overhead.
As Eddie worked on wedging the door open so they’d be able to get back down to his apartment, Aiden wandered closer to the edge of the building to a bit of a better look of the town. “You know this is actually better than being down there in the crowds.” She commented casually as the first firework was shot into the night sky to illuminate it with color.
"I think so too," Eddie replied. It gave them a little privacy from the rest of the world, as well. After wedging the door open, he walked further out onto the roof to stand next to Aiden, looking up at the night sky. "Oh, look at that one!"
“That is awesome.” Aiden smiled brightly, leaning slightly against Eddie then, as more fireworks were set off into the sky. “There’s no better way to spend New Year’s then this.” She wouldn’t trade moments like this with her BFF for anything in the world.
Eddie smiled brilliantly and wrapped an arm around Aiden, helping her shrug off the cold. Fortunately werecreatures ran a little hot blooded, but it was a sweet gesture, nevertheless. "Happy New Year's," he said to her.
Aiden welcomed the gesture, no one knew her better than Eddie, especially in moments like this when he seemed to be able to read her mind. “Happy New Year’s” She echoed, taking a small pull from the bottle before offering the bottle of non alcoholic champagne to her friend.
