Dinner Out
Who: Jaedan & Nikki
Where: Misty's Diner
When: Tuesday Evening, 3/6
Her brother Tim had something big to attend tonight, but Nikki hadn't been able to tag along because she had a test the next day. She wanted to make sure that she was well studied for it. Even though her parents had wanted her to go as well, they both completely understood that she needed to stay in and study. So, they had given her some money for dinner and told her to make sure that she did well on her test. So, she had decided to come by Misty's Diner for dinner, bringing her books with her. After she seated herself, she spread her books on the table, wanting to eat and maybe get started at the same time.
Nikki came into the diner at just the right moment as the teen would be Jaedan's last customer for the evening. The pregnant waitress had just about to leave a little bit early when Nikki wandered in and sat herself at one of the tables that fell under Jaedan's serving area.
"Can I get you something to drink?" She asked politely, and with a smile as she set a menu down on the table top in front of the red haired teen.
Nikki looked up at Jaedan and smiled at her. She had been here before, and had noticed the young waitress in the past. "Uh, yeah, can I get a coke while I look at the menu?" she asked with a nod.
"Sure." She smiled to the girl. "I'll be right back with your coke." Jaedan smiled again before she turned away from the girl to get her a glass of soda. "Here you go." Jaedan said pleasantly to Nikki upon her return to the girl's table. The glass of soda was then set down on the table amidst the scattering of books. "And our specials for tonight, just in case you might be curious to know, are Angel Hair Pasta with Marinara sauce, and Chicken Fried Steak."
"Ooh thank you," Nikki said, taking a big gulp of the soda when it was set in front of her as she thought about the specials for a moment. "Actually, I think the Chicken Fried Steak sounds really good. What sides does it come with?"
"That meal comes with your choice of potato and vegetables, and a cup of soup or a salad." Jaedan answered with a smile, one she managed genuinely despite her slight tiredness and achy feet.
"Can I get the potato, baked?" Nikki asked. "What's the soup that's on tonight?" She could tell that Jaedan looked a little tired on her feet. Maybe she could invite the girl to sit with her or something?
"Sure, sweetie." She smiled then. "And for the soup we have cream of broccoli and chicken and rice." She told the girl as she pulled her order menu out of the pocket of her apron. Once she got Nikki's order in, Jaedan was looking forward to resting her feet, and herself for a few moments.
"I think chicken and rice sounds awesome," Nikki said with a nod. "Uh...you want to join me or anything? It looks like it's been a long shift." she frown. "Ok, I mean that in a nice way, I swear."
"I'll get your order right in to the cook, then." Jaedan said as she wrote the girl's order down on her menu pad. "Quite a long shift," Jaedan admitted with a slight smile, "and I wouldn't want to impose." Though if invited again, Jaedan wouldn't refuse the girl's friendly offer.
"Thank you," Nikki said to Jaedan. "And I don't mind. Despite all the books, I could use some company if you're not too busy." Because Nikki was just dying to do a whole lot of studying, didn't you know?
"Fortunate for you, you're my last customer of the evening." Jaedan told the girl before she left momentarily to get Nikki's order turned in. And when she returned to the girl's table, Jaedan happily sat down, glad to finally be off her feet. "My name's Jaedan." She said then, though she had a feeling the girl might already know that as Jaedan had seen Nikki in the diner before.
"I'm Nikki," she said, offering the slightly older girl her hand. Even though they were close in age, Nikki had one of her 'feelings' that Jaedan was a lot older in experiences than in years. She didn't read minds as much as she could help it, but she still got feelings from people.
"Nice to meet you Nikki." She smiled softly to the girl. "And thank you again for allow me to sit with you while your dinner is being cooked up." While she was quite close in age to Nikki, Jaedan was more mature in the way of life experiences then most girls her age. Experiences she wouldn't wish on anyone.
"It's no problem. I'm sure you'll be a lot more fun than my school work." She totally meant that in the nicest way possible. She definitely got the feeling that something had happened to Jaedan in the past, but she absolutely hated prying into people's lives like that.
"I hope I'd be more fun then a pile of books." She smiled pleasantly then, absently running a hand lightly over the swell of her belly. While she was friendly enough, her past is something she's not one for talking about.
"Oh definitely." Nikki wouldn't be one to ask, either. Not when she was getting the general feelings that she was getting. She noticed Jaedan running her hand over her belly. "How far along are you?"
"Seven months." Jaedan smiled proudly with another gentle stroke of her hand over the bump of her belly. While the circumstances that led to her pregnancy were tragic and painful, Jaedan couldn't hold what the baby's father did to her against the child. She was finding she could only feel love for the tiny being growing inside her, and Jaedan hoped her child felt that.
Nikki was able to feel the love emanating from BOTH of them, but, once again, didn't say it out loud. "Do you know if it's gonna be a boy or a girl yet?" She hoped that she wasn't asking too many questions, but Jaedan seemed happy to be having a baby. She did get the idea to not ask about the father, although she wouldn't know why without 'prying.'
"No," she answered truthfully, "to me it doesn't really matter." She smiled. "I just wish for this little one to be born healthy and happy."
"Sounds like you're gonna be an awesome mom." Nikki couldn't predict the future; that was just more of a hunch. She was sure that she was right, though.
"I hope so." Jaedan smiled then. She had her doubts on that sometimes, but for the most part Jaedan was of the thought that she'd be a good mother to her child.
"Well, I think you would be." Even if Nikki wasn't a mind reader, she had a good feeling about that. "How long have you lived in Beaconsfield?"
"I've been living here in town for about two months." Jaedan told Nikki. It was relatively a short amount of time, but Jaedan had seemed to settle into the town quite well. And had actually made a couple good friends in Gabby and her daughter.
Nikki nodded. She knew that she would have known her better if she was a local. This town wasn't very big, after all. Just big enough for most people. "How are you liking it so far?" It seemed to be treating her well so far.
"I'm liking it." Jaedan smiled with her reply. "I think there's just something about a small town atmosphere that's appealing." Not that appealing was the word she was looking for, but it seemed best at the moment in describing her feeling about Beaconsfield.
"I think that's what pulls people here. This is a place where people are willing to accept you no matter what." Of course, this place pulled all sorts of supernatural types (Nikki had accidentally found this out with her 'ability), so it had to be accepting after a while.
Something Jaedan found out during her first couple of days in the small town. "Have you lived her long?" The waitress asked then in return.
"I've lived here all my life, actually," Nikki said to her. She was pretty sure that her grandparents had grown up here, if not even further back.
"You must really like it here in Beaconsfield." Jaedan said to Nikki, then. The girl didn't seem digruntled or disapproving of the place, so it was Jaedan's opinion that Nikki liked the small town she had been born and raised in.
"Yeah. I mean, all of my friends and family are here, so what's not to love about it?" Nikki definitely wasn't one of those who hated the little town that she was from or wanted to escape forever.
Jaedan smiled, then, finding herself in agreement with Nikki's assessment of the town. What was there not to love about the place. "You're order should be just about ready." The waitress said as she stood up slowly from the table. "So, I should be right back with your dinner." She said with a smile to the girl before moving to go check on things.
Nikki knew that, despite what this town sometimes attracted, was a good place to be. "Thank you," she said to Jaedan, letting her leave to go check on the food.
