Normally the Portland Police Department was full of little cases. Everything from theft to car accidents to suspicious people lurking about in places they shouldn't be. But today, today seemed to be a lazy day. No new cases had crossed her desk. No people came in demanding to be seen. No victims seemed to have shown up. And no calls came across her line. If only for today, Portland seemed to be peaceful. A tranquil place in the world where everyone was getting along and playing nice. While it made for a nice thought in the eyes of the police detective, it also made for a boring day doing paperwork for other things. Of course, as efficient as Eden, or "Mack" as she was known in her close circle, that meant the paperwork had been done about an hour ago. Now, she was sitting at her desk with her ankles kicked up on top of it, going through some cold case files from before she got here. Nothing wrong, she figured, with a pair of fresh eyes pouring over some of the reports. Boredom in someone like Mack meant productiveness in other areas. Her brain was usually too active at work for her to just sit back and relax. She did her relaxing at home in the comfort of her living room with her television or music on. Or, ya know, when she was sleeping. It was nicer there than it was here. She wasn't above being comfortable at work. Not at all. She just preferred to see what she could find to make some headway in. Being productive in her line of work could mean someone's life. Or someone else's closure. Mack was all for that. |
