Eric is definitely ambitious, but he doesn't desire power, or put himself first. He's not focused enough on himself to really excel in Slytherin.
Gryffindor is probably Eric's close second. He'll throw himself into danger because he knows he can probably walk out again, and he's brave and just, but he doesn't seek adventure for the sake of it.
His powers make it a little too hard for him to be satisfied being patient. Although he's devoted to serving others, he'd rather do it as a genius than a stolid Hufflepuff.
I think Eric's a Ravenclaw. Despite his charisma and his bravery, he's chiefly defined by his mind. An inventor before a hero, his heroism is best expressed through his inventions, which seek to reduce violence on a grand scale. His wit and creativity make this one a pretty simple choice for me.
