Cleaning up a mess
"I think that's the last of it."
Pete looked up from his spot on the floor, and nodded at Jack. Standing, he stretched his back out, grimacing a bit when his muscles protested. Earlier that evening, Jack and him had been looking at one of the artifacts and before they knew it, the thing had exploded, causing a green substance to fly all over. The two of them had joked about getting superpowers from the goo, but the joke ended when Artie said they had to clean it up before going back to the boarding house. The job hadn't been easy but they were finally finished.
"I'm never touching another artifact again," Pete said as Jack and him made their way to the front of the Warehouse.
"You're such a liar," Jack laughed.
When they got to the front, the lights were dimmed and everyone was gone. After stripping off their cleaning suits, and putting them in a barrel to be washed, they headed out to Pete's car. "Next time we decided to play with an artifact, lets make sure John is nearby so he has to help, too," Pete laughed as they started toward town.
Working at the Warehouse was an amazing experience. Not only was the work fun, but Pete finally felt like he was part of something. His coworkers were fun to be around, and none of them judged him over his past. All of them respected and liked each other, and had become an extended family. Even Artie seemed to enjoy being around all of them.
And, of course, there was Myka. His beautiful and sweet and wonderful Myka. They hadn't gotten along at first but over time, Pete found himself developing feelings for her. Then everything in St. Louis had happened, and Pete knew he couldn't go another day without telling her had he felt. He had been elated to find out she felt the same way, and they had decided to take it slow. It was strange being with someone but not falling into bed with them. But Pete knew he would wait until the both of them were ready.
When they arrived at the boarding house, they went inside to find Leena, Claudia and Regan in the living room, watching some black and white movie. Pete waved at them before going upstairs. After saying goodnight to Jack, he went to his room and took a shower before putting on his pajamas. Wven though Myka and him weren't sleeping together, they often shared a bed since Pete found he slept better with her in his arms. Once he was completely changed, he went across the hall to her room, smiling when he saw she was dozing with a book.
"Hey," he said as he crawled into bed. He softly kissed her forehead before stretching out beside her. "I'm never playing with another artifact again."
