Ernie winced as Hazel dabbed at his face with the cloth, but he tried to say still and didn't protest against her doing it. He knew that what she was doing would probably help, even if it currently hurt.
Ernie wasn't really sure what to say in answer to her question though, or if he should really tell her what he had really been up to. He knew he could trust Hazel, he did. But he wasn't sure if she'd entirely like what she heard. But he didn't really have the energy to lie or to gloss over the truth, either.
