Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Neville and Parvati
What: Ginny-hunting
When: First day back from the Easter Hols
Where: On the train
Rating: Low, I'd expect

Parvati was starting to panic. She was trying not to, but she'd been up and down the train one and a half times, and had neither found Ginny, nor anyone who had seen her. It hadn't been her intention to go on a manhunt - she'd just been looking for her to pass on some ideas about the DA that she'd had over the break. But now that she hadn't been able to find her, the search had turned into a different sort of one.

She didn't want to finish her second round because she thought it best not to draw any more attention to herself and her question. Not until she had a better idea of what it meant, at least. Seamus was off sulking somewhere, and she thought it best not to bother him until he was ready to talk. So she poked her head into the next cabin and spotted Neville, entering the cabin and seating herself across from him. "I can't find her, Neville. Ginny, I mean. Since I talked to you last I've been up and down the train and no one's seen her. Did she contact you at all over the break?"

Neville looked up from where he'd been securing his trunk, a little nervous at all of the plants he'd stowed inside. Parvati's words, and her expression, turned what had been alarm about what he was smuggling to concern for what, and who, apparently weren't on the train.

"She didn't, but I didn't ask her to, either. We were going to organize... well, we were going to make sure everyone was safe once we got back to the castle," he said carefully, avoiding saying anything that might be mistaken for anything other than harmless worry for a friend. "Maybe one of the Slytherin prefects has detained her or something?"

"I suppose they could have, and then just lied when I asked if they'd seen her," Parvati said, not sounding convinced. "But they'd have had to have detained her and then left her alone, because I was specifically checking for every IS member when I went through the second time."

Looking up sharply when someone walked by the door and then sitting back against the chair when she saw that it wasn't Ginny, she shrugged. "I guess we'll know when we get back. If they make a bit deal about her being gone, then it will have been on her own terms, if they don't, then they'd have been involved. Or if she shows up." Parvati didn't clarify who she meant by them; at this point, she figured specifying wasn't necessary.

"That's not good enough," Neville insisted, remaining on his feet. It wasn't to add insult to injury that he didn't resign himself to Parvati's search of the train, but he knew they would neither of them have any peace from sitting and waiting.

"We could go and ask her friends, see if they saw her at the station, or heard from her over the holiday," he began, watching Parvati's expression to see if these were things she'd already done.

Parvati shook her head. "Done, done, and done. I talked to Lizzie, Victoria, and Tavish. The latter two hadn't heard anything, and Lizzie had talked to her once over the break, but she never replied to the second owl. So she got home, at least." Burying her face in her hands for a few moments she finally lifted her head and shook it.

"Did you hear anything? Or, who else still at school has connections with her family? Your grandmother knows more people than my parents, did you hear anything? Or overhear?"

Neville was really beginning to worry now, but the emotion wasn't debilitating as it had been in the past. Instead of feeling helpless, like there was nothing he could do, Neville felt like he would do anything if he discovered something terrible had happened to Ginny. Surely, though, Gran would have heard if something had.

His expression cooled, marginally, and Neville regarded Parvati with a level gaze.

"I didn't, and Gran didn't mention anything, which makes me think that whatever has happened to Ginny can't have been the Death Eaters. Haven't they made sure we hear about everyone they've hurt?"

"That's true," Parvati said, only marginally convinced. "Unless they just haven't told us yet. But if Lizzie didn't hear back after Wednesday, then it would have been enough time for them to tell us. So it probably isn't Death Eater related."

She sighed, chewing on her lip nervously again. "I don't know what else it'd be, though. Did they go into hiding or something? I don't know that I can wait until the next Potterwatch to know for sure."
