Of all the things that Ernie had expected to do that evening, hiding in a closet kissing Hazel hadn't really been on his list. But his list was absolutely no fun, and the reality of the evening was so much better, even if it involved hiding from the IS.
Kissing Hazel was soft and sweet and exactly how he had expected it to be. And yet, it was better than he had expected, and her returned enthusiasm at least meant that he probably wasn't going to get slapped.
He really didn't want to get slapped.
Eventually he had to pull away though, feeling a flush creep across his cheeks, even though it was too dark to see. "I-uh-I think the IS might be gone," he said quietly after a moment, mostly because he felt like he was obligated to say so. Not because he actually wanted to leave the closet.
