Catching Ernie's eye just as she intended to answer him in the affirmative, Hazel blushed at the way he was smiling at her, looking away quickly but unable to keep from smiling herself.
"She'd be the first to say it," Hazel replied softly, dropping a stitch in her distraction. "Oh, Helga's knees," she muttered, placing one needle in her lap and lifting the stitch back on to the other. When she looked at Ernie again, she was sure even her eyelids must be rosy with embarrassment.
"I'd be happy to let you borrow one of my siblings, if you're ever lonely."
