Lavender's Easter break had not been too fantastic. Her mother closed her beauticians on Diagon Alley. It wasn't as easy for her father to walk away from his job, and though he wouldn't go into details about it, he returned from work each day ashen-faced and miserable. He didn't know, but one night, Lavender heard him crying. It was such a quiet, pathetic sound that it scared her more than a thousand detentions with the Carrows. She kept this information to herself, but it killed her to return to Hogwarts knowing that her family was suffering quietly.
In comparison to Seamus's family however, all they were experiencing was a mild discomfort. Lavender was not immune to his bad moods, and had been contemplating avoiding him until he cooled off. She assumed it wasn't the normal kind of bad mood that was affecting him, however, but she didn't want to force the truth out of him for a change. After tricking Michael into confessing his secret, Lavender developed something akin to respect for people's privacy.
On seeing Seamus, Lavender checked either side of herself, "So you're talking to me now? You nearly bit my head off this morning when I asked you to pass the butter."
