Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Seamus Finnigan, Lavender Brown
What: Everything was not well at Finnigan Farms over Easter hols, and Seamus needs to vent.
When: Monday, April 11, 1998 - After Divination and before dinner.
Where: A Hogwarts Courtyard, at least to start.
Rating: Low, except for language maybe?

Seamus felt like punching something, preferably the stone wall next to him. But seeing as he didn't fancy a trip to the hospital wing or trying to find one of his friends and asking them to heal him, he managed to hold back the impulse. He'd been seething ever since he'd returned to school after the holiday. No, wait. Scratch that. He'd been seething since he'd gotten home only to find out that his father and brothers were gone. He'd been nervous about leaving the school, worried that something bad would happen during the break, but little had he known that the bad thing he should have been afraid of was waiting for him back in Kenmare.

He'd arrived back at the farm to find his father's foreman running the day to day operations, and his mother curiously closemouthed on the subject of where, exactly, his father, Liam, and Ciaran had gone. Late the first night, after Saoirse had gone to bed, he'd been able to convince his Mam to tell him everything and she'd related how his father and brothers were amongst a group of refugees that had recently been spirited away to France. He'd been dumbfounded - his parents hadn't told him any of their plans and he couldn't believe that half his family had just left. He hadn't wanted to spoil the time with his Mam and sister, though, and so he'd somehow managed to keep his steadily mounting panic and anger under wraps, but they'd been swirling around ever since he'd gotten back to school, just waiting to find a way to escape.

He was seriously contemplating punching the wall again, or at least kicking it, when he heard footsteps approaching and looked up and saw Lavender coming towards him. Sighing, he waited for her to reach him. He'd been avoiding his friends on the train and during the day today, and whenever he'd not been able to be alone, he'd been grumpy and short-tempered; he was just feeling so many conflicting things at once that he hadn't known what to say to any of them. But it looked like he'd have to figure it out now. Hanging his head slightly, he peered at Lav through his fringe. "Hey," he muttered, dropping his head as soon as he spoke.

Lavender's Easter break had not been too fantastic. Her mother closed her beauticians on Diagon Alley. It wasn't as easy for her father to walk away from his job, and though he wouldn't go into details about it, he returned from work each day ashen-faced and miserable. He didn't know, but one night, Lavender heard him crying. It was such a quiet, pathetic sound that it scared her more than a thousand detentions with the Carrows. She kept this information to herself, but it killed her to return to Hogwarts knowing that her family was suffering quietly.

In comparison to Seamus's family however, all they were experiencing was a mild discomfort. Lavender was not immune to his bad moods, and had been contemplating avoiding him until he cooled off. She assumed it wasn't the normal kind of bad mood that was affecting him, however, but she didn't want to force the truth out of him for a change. After tricking Michael into confessing his secret, Lavender developed something akin to respect for people's privacy.

On seeing Seamus, Lavender checked either side of herself, "So you're talking to me now? You nearly bit my head off this morning when I asked you to pass the butter."

Seamus' head drooped even lower at her response. Great, he thought. She sounded a bit hacked off, and he couldn't really blame her, given his behavior over the last day or so. He felt bad about taking his frustrations out on his friends, especially Lav, but he just hadn't been able to help it - everything he'd bottled up over the hols seemed to want to spill out and he couldn't control it.

He scrubbed his hands over his face before straightening and looking her in the eye. "Yeah, I am...if y'can stand t'be around me, that is. M'sorry about this mornin'." He glanced at the empty seat on the bench next to him. "Do y'dare t'join me?" he smiled at her ruefully. "I promise t'try not t'be a git."
