Who: Ernie and Padma!
What: Your Head Boy and Girl people.
When: 31 March
Where: Hogwarts obvs.
Rating: Low

Padma and Ernie didn't often have rounds together, but every once in a while it happened. They usually tried to schedule people together in ways that wouldn't result in the castle being burned to the ground, which meant that they didn't serve rounds together. Sure, they got together for meetings and talked often, but this was a treat. It would be mean no arguing and no one second guessing someone else. It was probably going to be a rather easy night.

"Alright Ernie?" Padma asked, smiling when she saw the Head Boy.

((OOC: Do we need to backdate this slightly so that it happens before they all go on holiday? Perhaps Thursday night as their last night rounds before leaving?))

They never got to do this. Ernie and Padma never got to go on rounds together, for good reason really, but he was really thrilled at the prospect, especially after the disaster that had been rounds with Avery.

It would be really nice to just spend the evening with someone without the drama, without the fighting, who had the same goals and interests. An easy night was really all that he wanted.

Ernie returned Padma's smile. "Quite. And how are you tonight, Padma?"

"I'm fairly brill," Padma said. "What about you?" This was going to be a nice way to start their hols. She wouldn't have to worry about hexes or insults flying. They could just insure that everyone was in their dormitories and actually take their time doing rounds.

"Ready for hols?"

"More than I could possibly explain," Ernie replied. Previous to this year, he'd never thought he'd ever want to get away from Hogwarts the way he did now. But with everything that was happening, everything that had already happened, he was looking forward to getting away.

Though he wasn't sure the real world was any better than what was at Hogwarts. But for a few days, at least, he hoped that he could relax just a touch and pretend that he was just a seventeen year old boy, instead of someone in a war.

"Though I imagine I'll have to spend most of it on revision. I'm horribly behind, what with everything being so damn...complicated."

"It's hard to stay on top of revision," Padma said, nodding her head. "With all the drama and everything else, but - I suppose that's part of what Hogwarts has become for the worse." She bit her lip and thought for a moment. "Although I suppose it isn't much better on the outside really. The Death Eaters and everything."

"Ah yes. The root of all our problems. Well, indirectly, but you get the idea..." Ernie shook his head. "Part of me wonders if there's even a point to studying. It's hard to believe that NEWTs will even still happen, with all the chaos."

What was once viewed as one of the most important things to work hard for, had suddenly become so very inconsequential. So as much as he said that he'd spend the break on revision, what he really suspected he'd do is lock himself in his room and sleep, if he could manage it.

Ernie looked over at Padma. "Are you finding everything to be as impossibly hard to manage as I am?" he asked quietly.

"Well, even if things get - more of the way they are," Padma said, carefully selecting her words in case one of the Carrows overheard. She bit her lip and glanced around, just to be sure. "We will still be expected to get jobs after Hogwarts and so our marks will matter. I know that's hard to see but they will. And if good things happen," she gave Ernie a meaningful look. "Then we really will need excellent marks."

She was quiet for a moment. "It is difficult to manage all of this," she admitted. "It's not ideal. "Any of it."

"No, of course it isn't." Ernie shook his head, trying to clear away the thoughts. He was finally going to get away for a little bit, and maybe that would help put some perspective on it all. Now wasn't the time, anyway.

Ernie sighed first, as he looked ahead at the hallway, before turning his head and smiling at Padma. "You're right, though. It'll still be imperative to get excellent marks. So a change in the subject. Anything new in the life of the fabulous Padma Patil?"
