Wrapping his arms around her as she settled back against him, his gaze followed hers to the dying of the fireworks. Luckily, after they faded, the moonlight was bright enough that they could still see each other dimly. He gladly took a bite of the cupcake when she offered it to him, suppressing a whimper at the sight of her licking the frosting off her thumb. "S'good," he managed after swallowing the bite of cake. "I asked them for somethin' special in the kitchens, and they definitely came through."
Remembering he had one more element to this birthday surprise, he reached into his pocket with his free hand, finding the little drawstring pouch that was there. Pulling it out, he brought it around and held it in front of her, leaning in to whisper in her ear, "now that we've had cake and singin', would y'like t'open your present?"
