Well that was an absurd notion. "How the hell do you think wars start, Avery? Of course there's a choice. People choose to act, or not act, to kill or not to kill. Some things are beyond our control, but how you react to those is nothing but a series of choices." Ernie looked at her, his gaze even though his tone was far from it. "People are dying because someone made a choice about how worthy they thought they were. But that's just the price, isn't it? After all, death's not the hard part, living is, right?"
Merlin, he needed to Shut. The. Hell. Up. He didn't spend so much time biting his tongue this year to let it all go to a stupid Slytherin 6th year. She was entirely right when she said that he didn't really know anything about her, but it was hard to believe that she was anything unlike the rest of her current house complete with a pedigree full of Death Eaters, no doubt.
He turned away from her, opening the door to the classroom where the voices were coming from. Had he not been quite so irritated, he would have had more discretion about it, and when he saw what was inside he immediately regretted his haste. Because the sight of a group of younger students making posters (not unlike those the DA had hung in the past) made his stomach drop. He understood what they were doing. He even supported it (though part of him was lamenting how stupid they were to be doing it there), but having Avery in tow complicated matters.
He needed to figure out how to keep them out of the hands of the Carrows.
