Sarah rolled over in bed and glared at her alarm clock. Scrubbing one hand across her bleary eyes, she scrabbled for her wand with the other, finally finding it and silencing the clock’s repetitive and high-pitched screeching. She had an early shift today, and so while she knew she’d be able to end her day in the middle of the afternoon, right now she was not looking very much forward to going into work. She sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed, blinking slowly as her feet found the floor. She’d never been much of a morning person as a child, and that was one thing that hadn't changed.
As she got up, she found her dressing gown and slippers and quickly put them on, sliding her wand into one of her pockets. She shuffled down the hallway from her bedroom towards her cottage’s small kitchen, fumbling for the dials on her stove so that she could heat her kettle for a proper pot of tea. As she was moving to her cupboard to get down her mug, she turned.
Had she heard something? A scratching sort of noise over by the living room window?
Instantly wary, she pulled her wand from her pocket and crept towards the window. The part of her that was imagining what she must look like, skulking across her own living room like a thief, chided her for being silly. The other, more pragmatic part of her told her that she could never be too cautious. What if someone - the wrong sort of someone - had found out that she and Stephen had been poking around the old Lovegood house the other day?
Sidling towards the window and attempting to keep herself out of sight, she peered through the glass cautiously. And nearly dropped her wand in shock.
