What: Recruitment to the cause
When: Wednesday, 16 February, 1998
Where: Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire, and the Greengrass Estate, Tintagel, Cornwall

The very air of the Malfoy home tasted to Lord Voldemort of spoiled ambitions, like rotten meat or molded bread. Lucius and his wife were as captivating company as such articles would be, ironically, and he was glad they allowed him the use of their manor without suffering their presence. Unless summoned, of course.
Bellatrix was not as easily put off, but Voldemort knew well the influence he had over the woman, and banishing her from his side made for a better servant when she was joined with him again.
For this was what he wanted: servants. He had no interest in their opinions, their aspirations, not even their interest in him. It served and they did, too, wizards and witches like Bellatrix raised not so much in his esteem as they were in his determination of their value.
Severus was no different, though he was the most valuable. His bloodless execution of Dumbledore had sealed Severus’ fate with The Dark Lord, and it was with the knowledge that the man served him absolutely that Voldemort chose Severus for this particular mission.
