Seamus drummed his fingers on the arm of the couch, staring absentmindedly into the flames in the common room fireplace. Earlier in the day he'd heard through the Prefect grapevine that a Gryffindor fifth year, David Bennett, had gotten a detention from Carrow during DADA. Normally, he wouldn't be too fussed about it even though it was a detention from Amycus, but it was now almost an hour past curfew and Bennett still hadn't returned to the tower. Seamus had been up working on some of his homework and, if he were honest with himself, puzzling over his fight with Lavender earlier in the day. But as the hour had grown later, and more and more of his housemates had filed in through the portrait hole, Bennett's absence began to weigh more heavily on his mind. After a bit he gave up the pretense of trying to study and simply sat waiting for the boy to come back, growing more convinced with each passing moment that something very very bad had happened to his missing housemate.
The sound of footsteps behind him had him turning to the portrait hole expectantly before realizing it wasn't Bennett. Nevertheless, he greeted the person who'd just entered the common room. "Hey Ginny, how're you?" He knew his voice sounded tense, but he couldn't seem to wind down.
