He traced the scars on her back while she slept. Most were faint, old. While they’d mostly happened before she learned to tap into her power, they were still there, marring her otherwise perfect skin. He briefly let himself wonder how many of those scars had been his fault. How many had happened trying to stop him when he’d first come to Sunnydale? He didn’t dwell on those thoughts for too long, he didn’t like feeling guilty and that’s exactly where those thoughts would lead. In truth, he thought Giles was to blame. It was Buffy’s calling. Buffy who was supposed to battle the forces of darkness, not her. Giles never should’ve allowed a normal mortal girl to become so involved in the fight.
It wasn’t just the visible scars that bothered him though, there were also the scars that weren’t visible to the eye. She tried to hide them, just as she hid the ones on her back with shirts that showed no skin. She thought she hid them well, but he was sure the truth was that her friends saw only what they wanted to see. It was easier for Buffy and Giles to pretend they weren’t there at all than to admit Willow was hurt and they had caused it. So much could’ve been prevented, so much further damage, if they’d been willing to risk their own feelings: Willow turning to the rat girl that lead her to Rack and addiction, nearly killing her friends in her grief, her fear of losing control again- it all could’ve been prevented if her friends had been willing to open their eyes and see the poorly concealed scars.
He didn’t know if he could heal them, the wounds were too old now, all he could do was try to help her accept them, not hide from them as she did, as her friends did. Together they’d help each other heal what could be healed and accept what couldn’t. At least that would be something.

Title: Mourning
Author: Shannon
Theme(s): Angst 10 Grave
Pairing/Characters: Willow/Tara
Rating: PG

Summary: Willow visits Tara’s grave.
Willow glanced back at Xander, he was trying to give her privacy. She wished she had insisted on coming alone. She’d let him come because she thought she’d needed support, but really she needed time to mourn. Time to deal with Tara’s death. It had been months but she still hadn’t really had a chance to mourn. First the anger had been too much, and then she had been so focused on learning control she hadn’t had a chance to mourn. She hadn’t even attended the funeral.
She turned attention back to the grave in front of her and did her best to pretend Xander wasn’t watching her. She missed her. Missed her more than she thought it was possible to miss anyone. When she was in England with Giles she had wanted to come here more than anything. She had wanted to just feel close to Tara again. Now that she was here though, she didn’t feel closer to her, she felt further away, standing here, seeing her name on the stone in front of her just made it all seem more real, more final. Standing on Tara’s grave she couldn’t pretend that it wasn’t real, that Tara would come back to her again.
