Change will come...
Who: Wanda, Pietro, Mia at the start.
When: Wednesday June 3rd. Morning. Vacation Day
Where: Pietro’s cell then Transia 29 years in the past.
What: Wanda and Pietro meet their mother.

As soon as she was awake, Wanda went straight to her brother’s room, though she gave him no explanation for her sudden appearance. In truth, she’d had a nightmare, the details of which were already becoming hazy, and she just felt like company. She remembered little about her dream, except that it had taken place in Transia- the land of her birth in the Balkans. Now she sat in a chair in Pietro’s room, mulling through distant memories of a freezing place. As was usually the case whenever she thought of Transia, her thoughts turned to her birth mother.

It was strange, Wanda mused, that she rarely wondered about their real father but often thought about their real mother. Perhaps it was just harder to imagine abandonment at the hands of a mother than at the hands of a father. She had always suspected that the woman must have died soon after their birth, though Django had never been able to confirm this. All he knew of their parents was that they were not Transian and that their mother had only arrived at Wundagore on the day she gave birth- that was all Bova told Marya and Django when she gave the twins over to them. Bova was also a mystery; she was apparently a cow woman- a concept that was slightly difficult for Wanda to fathom- created by someone called the High Evolutionary on Mount Wundagore where the twins were born.

While Wanda thought of her mother she felt a deep sadness that she had never met the woman. It must have been terrible for her, Wanda imagined, a stranger in the cold climes of Transia in the midst of winter. The frozen Balkans were not an easy environment for outsiders to endure, and for their mother it must have been a difficult journey to Wundagore. Wanda wished, foolishly she knew, that she could have seen her mother, helped her somehow. But we can’t change the past she thought and gave a wistful sigh.

"Don't think she liked me," Pietro muttered, hoping on one foot as he struggled to pull on his boots, "I'm likable, aren't I? Is it a pregnant thing?" He offered a small smile, wrapping the cloak round his shoulders with a grateful sigh, moving to pull Wanda's closer around her. "Yes, back to the camp, maybe we'll send you in first," he teased, "People like you. Think it's the hair?"

"Yes of course you're likable," she answered distractedly, glancing back at the doors. "I wouldn't know if it's a pregnant thing, having never been pregnant. I suppose it could just be hormones or something. I'm sure she was grateful, regardless." She smiled and shrugged. "Perhaps, I guess I do fit in a bit more around here. What I still want to know is how we got here. Anyway, do you want to run us down or shall we walk?"

"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth Wanda," Pietro said with a grin, "I don't much care how we got here, where we are, or anything, so long as we're not in that place any more. We can worry about that when we're safe and warm."

"I'll carry you," he said, gesturing for her to climb on his back, "We've been out long enough."

Wanda did as he said and hauled herself onto his back. She was glad for her cloak and glad at the prospect of being out of the cold soon. She just hoped whoever was in the camp down there would treat them kindly. Though she was grateful for the winter wear shelter in Wundagore would have been somewhat preferable.

He ran them down, going slower then he might of had the weather been nicer, eyes on a sharp look out for danger.

He stopped short of the camp, setting Wanda down and fixing her with a hard look. "You wait here. I'm going to go make sure it's safe," he said, giving her a look that said not to cross him, he was serious for once.

He approached the fires, keeping his movements slow and non threatening, and raising his hands when a voice called out. "Hello? I'm sorry to bother you. My sister and I...we're stranded out here, and I need to warm her up. I was hoping we might be able to stay with you...We don't have anything to barter with, but if there is any way I can be of service I would not hestitate," he pledge, holding still as a group of gypies approached, a suspcious look in their eye.

They spoke in hushed voices and it was some time before Pietro returned to Wanda, a small smile on his face. "We can stay, come on," he said, wrapping an arm round her shoulders.

Wanda went with him into the camp, a cautious smile on her face. Some of them stared at her warily and others returned her smile. A man made a motion for them to sit near a fire and Wanda did so and muttered her thanks when a bowl of some hot soup was placed in her hands. She ate slowly, looking around her in interest.

Despite his worry, Pietro felt a certain warmth, a certain safety here. It was very much like the camps he remembered from his childhood. Before America, before the schools. It felt like home.

He nudged Wanda in the ribs playfully as the camp began to return to normal, a scruffy haired man starting up a song, and with a laugh Pietro pulled Wanda to her feet to join the others in dancing. "We're free Wanda, we should be celebrating," he said with a wide grin.

"You're too optimistic," she told him but carried on with the dancing anyway. She was still worried about why and how they were here and she could not get the subject from her mind. When the dance ended she sat back down and the thought occurred to her to ask a strange question.
"What's the date?" she asked of a woman nearby who answered, "December Nineteenth." Wanda nodded and then, "What's the year?" The woman gave her an odd look but replied, "Nineteen eighty-one." Wanda stared at the woman in silent shock.

Pietro had borrowed a tambourine from one of the girls, keeping rhythm with a practiced ease, smirking at Wanda and shrugging easily. "Gotta balance you out, darling. If I weren't optimistic your gloom would suffocate us all," he said with a wink.

He sat again with a breathless smile, fingers running along the edges of the instrument, which he abruptly dropped when his sister got her answer. Being suddenly displaced was one thing...an odd, and rather frightening thing, but...managable. But being displaced in time was something all together different. How would they find Django? How was...how...their mother was alive. Their birth mother too...they weren't even born yet... or rather...they were about to be born.

His eyes drifted slowly toward Wundagore.

She couldn't be.

Wanda was looking up at the mountain as well as the same realization hit her. "It's not possible," she murmured and then looked at her brother. "It can't be...right?"

"...That we suddenly get transported to the place of our birth, on the day of our birth, the year we were born, and meet a pregnant lady who looks just like you heading to place we were born?" Pietro said in a rush, "No, course not...it's a coincidence," he finished with a sarcastic air, "Fuck...fuck we can't be here. We shouldn't...we can't...fuck, that's our Mum. What do we do??"

"Run away. Or else run up there and demand to know why she abandoned us. And who our father is. ANd why she's running from him. Fuck, this is so messed up," Pietro muttered, "I need a cigarette. You are not supposed to be present for your own birth, that is just creepy."

"I don't know. I've never traveled through time before!" he hissed, "But hell, this opportunity doesn't come up every day, does it? Don't you want to know who our real parents are? Why they didn't want us?"

Pietro scowled. "...We sleep on it then, let her...birth us, but first thing in the morning we go find out what we can, deal? We can't pass this up. We don't have to tell her who we are, we just...find out why she didn't want us. She owes us that much."
