Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Alice and Benjy
Where: Saint Mungos
When: Tuesday afternoon
Status: Just posted
Rating: High..someone likes to curse....*coughs* Benjy

Frank was calm when he told Alice that Benjy had been hurt but that hadn't kept Alice from freaking out. She had practically flown about, a whirlwind of motion and chatter as she packed a bag to go sit with him. It had taken Frank forcibly restraining her to keep her in the house as he told her over and over that Benjy couldn't be visited. She waited until she was given the go ahead and now she was on her way, a giant bag of stuff for him strapped to her back.

"Auror special wing please." Alice smiled as the woman behind the desk politely. Mary O'Toole had worked in the department for the last ten years and she was a bit of a hard ass about visitors especially ones to the Auror wing. Due to the nature of the job and often the severity of the wounds visitors weren't looked highly upon. Of course Alice wasn't just any visitor and Mary knew her quite well. "Well well well Mrs Longbottom isn't it? At least this time you're visiting rather than checking in." Alice just grinned and then nodded, letting herself back to Benjy's room.

"Wow and here I thought you were supposed to be good at this. Good people don't end up in the hospital Ace, I thought you knew that."

There were 132 white bricks that surrounded the perimeter of his room, and yes, he had counted them on his own by himself several times over the last three days to ensure that his number was accurate. He could either do that or stare at the ceiling between the times when the Healers and mediwitches came in to visit him and check on him. He had even seen McKinnon once or twice; she was stationed in a different ward since she wasn't an auror (or training to be as was his case), but he felt marginally better knowing that she didn't hurt as bad as he did.

Looking up when Alice walked into the room, he had half a mind to sulk and look upset for her not visiting sooner, but he smiled instead, grateful for the company. "Yeah well, I had some technical difficulties on the last one. Sue me," was his grumpy response as he waved her over to the chair next to her bed. "I've been bloody bored, please say you're here to take me home."

"Eh I suppose you made a good attempt." Alice sat the bag down and then gave up her composure as she half crawled into the bed to hug him. "You had me so worried, don't do that again. They wouldn't let me in until now I've been going crazy." Suddenly as if realizing what she was doing, Alice quickly moved, reaching for the bag.

"I brought you some stuff." She dropped the bag into the bed beside him and the waited. She had brought a good deal of chocolate and some sugar mice and boiled sweets. There was a new book on charms and as a joke some crayons and paper.

His arms instantly wrapped themselves around her back and hugged her back, though not without a bit of pain shooting itself through his stomach from the last curse he got before apparating the hell out of there. "Woman, you're squishing me," he mumbled more to himself before batting her away when she said that she had been so worried and that they hadn't let her visit him sooner. "If they knew how boring it was back here, they'd let people in." Before long, he was going to find out if it was possible to die from boredom.

When she mentioned that she had brought him stuff though, he raised his eyebrows and looked at the bag she chucked next to him. "I knew I kept you around for some reason," he chuckled, opening the back and rummaging through them. "Bloody brilliant, my favourite." He popped open some sugar mice and popped it in his mouth, savouring the taste; it was so much better than the hospital food he was living off of. He sat the charms book next to him, wondering if it was a hint that he obviously needed to brush up on some of his charm work and pulled out he crayons and paper. "What am I, five?" he asked, amused. Even still, even he thought she was teasing him with it, he was sure as hell going to use it later.

She crossed her legs, flipping her long hair over one shoulder. "I'm sorry you're so bored," she said pretending to be sympathetic before just rolling her eyes. "At least you're not having to work right? I mean that's one plus isn't it?" She raised her eyebrows at him when he asked if he were five and she nodded seriously. "To me you always will be. Such a cute little boy." She pouted cutely at him and then pinched his cheek just to be a pain in the ass.

"so when are they letting you out of this place? Last time I was here it was two weeks and I nearly went crazy.'

Benjy resisted the urge several times to flip her off for being sarcastic and unsympathetic to him - he could have died and all she was doing was rolling her eyes and pinching his damn cheeks like she used to when they were younger. Shaking his head, he emptied the bag of all its contents, making sure that there wasn't anything else in there for his enjoyment.

"Small consolation not working is," he mumbled, unwrapping more chocolate and stuffing it in is mouth. "I'd rather be doing something than sitting on my backside all day," he continued with his mouth full of chocolate. "Dunno when they're letting me out though." He shrugged his shoulders. The Healers hadn't really told him much about that, instead, they just kept insisting that he stay to make sure the hex to his stomach didn't do anymore damage than it already did. "Maybe a week? If it's longer, I'm going to wind up in the insanity ward."

She nodded at him, deciding she would quiz someone herself when she left his bedside. Alice seemed cute but she usually got what she wanted. "I know you want to go home but you feel well right? Everything feels okay? You don't need to go home until you do."

Sure he was going to get mad at her for mommy-ing him but that didn't matter; she had the right to worry. "What exactly happened?" Alice asked quietly. Frank had been rather passive about it all, not electing to tell her much probably because he didn't want to wind her up.

She was indeed mummy-ing him and luckily for her, his mum had already done it once or twice over the past few days for him to just brush most of it off with a shrug of his shoulders. "My gut's a bit sore, but other than that I'm fine." Really, he was, but they wouldn't let him go until they were positive his internal injuries were fully healed.

"McKinnon and I went to Knockturn Alley to see if we could get a bit of information out of some of those bastards. We got what we wanted, but someone recognised Marlene and all hell broke loose after that. Three or four of them, Death Eaters, I think, started firing at us. She got hit pretty badly and went down and one of the bastards was going to throw another one at her back - that's all they know how to do, isn't it? Throw shite at people's backs without any honour in it." He shook his head, wishing he had thrown something stronger than a stunner at the prick, especially for the shite he was having to go through as a result of taking the damn hex meant for McKinnon.

Alice nodded, figuring such a thing would happen. She still didn't know if she trusted Marlene all the way but if Dumbledore did then she would put her own suspicions away and support the decisions of the Order.

"She's doing okay now isn't she?" Alice folded her arms across each other watching him with slightly narrowed eyes. "They didn't know it was you did they? Please tell me they don't know who you are."

Before, Benjy thought exactly the same thoughts Alice was thinking: that Marlene couldn't be trusted, that she used to be friends with people who were Death Eaters now and she could potentially be a spy for them. They were all valid thoughts and even McKinnon had admitted that she knew people would think such things about her. But after what he had seen a few days ago and the way she fought with him against her former friends, he no longer thought the same way about her as he did before. She was one of them, she was an Order member through and through, probably even more so because she was going against the ideals that she had been brought up to believe and was going against those who she used to be friends with.

"So far as I know," he assumed. "I saw her the other day and she seemed to be getting along pretty good." Though, truth be known, he had visited her while she was sleeping the last time and instead of waking her, he simply asked a mediwitch about how she was doing.

Shaking his head, he reached over and patted Alice's hand. "Don't worry, mum, they don't know who I am and even if they did, I wouldn't give a shite. They might know that Marlene's apart of the Order now though."

His calling her mum didn't settle very well as was obvious by the frown that graced her features. "Yeah well it's something worth worrying about and you know it. If they know you everyone you know is in danger and blah blah blah I know you know it but I worry about you still and I have a right to so don't even bother trying to tell me otherwise."

She was hard headed maybe not as obnoxious about it as Benjy was but she was a hard act to follow if she was being insistent about something. "I'm guessing you will be laying low for a bit...right?"

Benjy rubbed his forehead and looked away from her momentarily while she scolded him. She could serious give his mum a run for her galleons in the scolding department; how the hell could they both make him feel guilty when it wasn't even his bloody fault? "You have a right to worry, but everything's fine! Nothing worse happened - I just got hexed a few good times and so did McKinnon, but we got the information we went there to get and came out hobbling. That's as good as anything in my books," he defended, knowing that she worried because she care and whatever, but he really didn't need a lecture after everything he had been through. What he really wanted was a pat on the back and a bit of acknowledgment for getting the damn job done.

"Do I have to?" he asked petulantly, really not liking the idea of having to lay low for awhile. That meant he had to stay indoors more and not take part in any missions for a certain time period. "No one saw me or even recognised me," he insisted.

She didn't come to see him to make him angry and Alice fell silent as he spoke, opening her mouth a few times to say something and then just closing it back up. "Look I'm not saying you didn't do a good job, you know I think you did a good job I just worry." The last words were said quietly and Alice looked down at her hands thinking of the number of houses Frank had visited just to tell the person waiting for their loved one that they were alone.

"And yes you have to. They are smarter than you think Benjy; they might recognize your fighting style or something and with it fresh in their minds put two and two together. Not to mention you need to be completely and totally fit as a fiddle before you get back out there." She reached over, ruffling his hair a bit, not trying to be annoying but wanting to be affectionate without being mushy. "I can't lose you okay...who would keep my stupid brother in line if you weren't around?"

Benjy let out an audible sigh, closing his eyes as she spoke quietly and explained just why he needed to lay low for awhile. He didn't like the idea, hated it actually, but he knew she had a point and that Moody and Dumbledore, and everyone else in charge would cut off his missions for awhile just to make sure the Death Eaters didn't suspect or recognise him.

The affectionate gesture where she played with his hair made a ghost of a smile grace his lips and he looked up at her and chuckled. "Maybe you can for once?" he teased lightly, reaching up for her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. "I'll lay off them for awhile, but as soon as I've got the all-clear, I'm going back out, okay?"
