Sirius had wandered off to the loo several minutes before hand, not really because he needed it, but because it gave him a good chance to check out some of the people milling around without looking entirely suspicious. He knew that when they'd first arrived, several people stared openly, as if to silently disapprove of him. He was dressed like them, he was acting like them, but they were obviously under the impression that he was still an utter hellion. He simply rolled his eyes.
After making a round about the room and disappearing a few minutes to seem as though he'd really gone to the loo, he returned and made his way over to Betty. Absently, he grabbed another cup of the delightful punch. He was beginning to feel the effects of it as well, but his tolerance was certainly higher than his dates. He gave her a smile, "Very interesting crowd. They're not at all the pompous gits I thought they would be," his tone held a bit of sarcasm as he heard someone giving a speech to anyone that would listen about how marvelous their award winning article had been, "I believe you're the only exception I've seen." He gave her a smile. In all honesty, he liked her more than he should.
Thankfully, no one was in the vicinity to hear his remarks. He knew if they were, it couldn't mean good things for Betty's standing in her job. He didn't want to get her into trouble, though something a bit more exciting would be nice. Everyone just stood around talking about themselves, and it made for a dull event.
