Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Sirius Black and Remus Lupin
When: Thursday evening
Where: Their awesome house
Rating: TBD, probably low but funny
Summary: Sirius got his motorbike and Remus doesn't quite know what to make of it.

Well, it certainly wasn't there this morning. Or even in the afternoon when he'd gone to sweep the front porce. But now there was a muggle motorbike parked out in front of their house and though Remus couldn't quite see well enough to make out what Sirius was doing, it looked like there was flailing involved. Remus had been doing a little research on the subject and presented Sirius with a list of safe, efficient, and ultimately really fast bikes that he hoped his friend would consider before rushing to the store and buying the first shiny bike he saw.

Remus moved out from behind the window to his bedroom and hurried downstairs to go see the bike up close. He also grabbed the helmet he'd purchased with some of the money he'd saved after moving in with Sirius and walked out the front door. Yes, he was definitely flailing. He smirked and headed out to where the bike was parked. "Just couldn't wait to buy it, could you mate? Which one did you go with? Did you actually get the name of the bike, or was it all about how fast it could go?"

Sirius was busy modifying his newly acquired bike, and he was quite proud to say he'd done all the proper research. He actually understood the muggle machine. He had committed everything to memory before he even suggested it. This was something he'd been waiting for long enough.

He sort of scrambled around, hiding his wand skillfully when he heard Remus approaching, "Of course I couldn't wait! I've been waiting for years! I went with the Triumph! I actually did look at the list, Moony. It was actually quite useful," he didn't mention that this was also the fastest, but surprisingly the msot reasonably priced and one of the top choices on 'the list.' He looked at the sleek combination of black and chrome, "Isn't she beautiful?"

I'm so sorry it took so long! I've been really sick. D:

Remus took in the sight of the bike. It was pretty impressive, and it appeared Sirius really had taken the time to look over his options and make an informed decision. That was probably what Remus was most proud of, but he kept that to himself and smiled at his best friend.

"Yeah, she is," he said, admiring it. "Still not getting me on it, but it looks like you made a great choice." Remus tilted his head. "So do you.. er.. know how to ride it? You didn't just push it home, did you?" Oh, that would've been too good if Sirius bought the thing and didn't even know how to ride it.

Sirius chuckled lightly, "Why not, Moony? You afraid of the big bad bike?" he teased, giving Remus a little nudge. Sirius wasn't sure when exactly he'd first wanted a motorbike, but it had been a long time ago.

He mock gasped, "Of course I know how to ride it! What do you think I did with my spare time when I was utterly bored? I took a few lessons at this muggle place. Really informative," he told Remus, leaving out the part where he also committed grand theft auto a few times to practice on his own...no harm, no foul, right?

"No!" He replied, a little too quickly. He wasn't afraid of the bike. Well, maybe a little. Remus was glad for Sirius, but he was content to walk where he needed to go. He'd need to eat a lot of chocolate before he'd feel brave enough to get on that thing. "I'm just more of a walker."

Remus resisted the urge of listing off plenty of things Sirius could've gotten himself into while being bored, letting him have this proud moment. But he did arch a brow at the notion of him taking lessons and being completely responsible. Either Remus was really rubbing off on him, or Sirius was omitting a bit of information. "Well come on then, give it a go. Let's see it in action."

The denial came a little too quickly to be completely true. Sirius simply smirked at his friend, "Walker? Why, that's just pitiful, Moony! You'll never get anywhere quickly walking."

Sirius could practically see the wheels in Remus's brain start to turn, but he dutifully ignored the quirked eyebrow and unspoken thoughts. It was best if he didn't talk himself into a lecture, "Alright then," he gave the key a quick turn and the lock a flip before hitting the starter, making it roar to life. He grinned at Remus, reluctantly shoving the helmet on his head, pulling the strap into a secure position before getting on the bike and easing it out of where it was. He just did a quick loop around the street, not wanting to just leave Remus standing there. It made him absolutely giddy even in that short few minutes, "So, what do you think?" It was completely smooth, absolutely in perfect condition.

"Yes but you never miss anything from moving too quickly!"

He smirked a little at Sirius moving to start things up before he could question him further. Remus watched as he hopped on the bike and nearly jumped out of his skin at the loud roar of the engine. He recovered quickly however, giving a very approving nod when Sirius pulled on the helmet. It might've flattened his hair, but at least he wouldn't flatten his head. He beamed as he watched his friend take off down the street and the expression only grew. It was great to see Sirius so happy, especially during a time of such sadness.

"I think you're going to need to cast a silencing charm on that thing or you'll wake the neighbors." Once he took off his protective parent mask, he smirked. "But I think it's brilliant. What'd you name her?"

He could tell that Remus was happy when he returned, despite the teasing comment, "Why silence the beauty that is this thundering roar?" he asked, giving it a rev for good measure, making it 'purr' loudly.

At the mention of the name though, a slightly more somber expression fell over his face for no more than a few seconds before the smile was back, though it was a little wry now, "Freedom. It seemed appropriate." That's what they were fighting for now, wasn't it? Freedom from oppression? And this motorbike was one of Sirius's escapes, his brief vacation from reality.

"Because I don't want our neighbors pounding on our door yelling at me about why you're making such a racket." There was a monumental bit of forward progress in Remus' statement. Referring to the door as "our door" finally acknowledged the home as belonging to them both. Up till then he'd still been calling it Sirius' house. He didn't realize his wording, but it was still a big deal.

Remus watched Sirius expression change, tilting his head. "I think it's a brilliant name. I was expecting you to name her Muffin or Sally or something. Look at you, thinking things through and being creative. You're growing up too fast, Padfoot. You might even be getting to be more mature than me."

"Aw, old Mrs. Baker can barely hear anyway and that couple over there is hardly ever home," Sirius pouted, however, his mind was mulling over that possessive use of 'our' that made him want to smile widely at Remus and tackle him for finally making that acceptance. It made it that much more impressive that it seemed to be his subconscience.

Sirius chuckled at that, "Well, I thought about naming her Lovey for a really long time, but then I decided that I should be a bit more serious about it, no pun intended for once. I'll never be more mature than you, Moony," he jested, "But, I think that being out of Hogwarts has helped me realize that not everything is a joke, no matter how much I want it to be. Plus, I'm getting older too...my birthday isn't that far away...the fifteenth." Sirius had hardly thought about it almost being his birthday until right then. He would be nineteen, which didn't seem all that spectacular, but seeing how involved he was in the war efforts, it was amazing that he'd lived to see that number.
