Who: Lily Potter and Marlene McKinnon When: Friday Evening Where: Some pub in London Rating: PG-13 at the most Summary: It's a girl's night out.
This was supposed to be a fun night for Lily, a night where she went out with another girl and let her hair down for once. She had been looking forward to it for a few days not, but before leaving to meet Marlene, things took a decided turn for the worse. James was upset with her going out with Marlene, someone Lily knew he didn't like, but was that really fair? There had been times when Lily didn't like his friends, but she had stuck it out for his sake. Why couldn't he do the same for her? Was he really that upset over her wanting to spend a night out with someone when he did it more often than she did? It was almost a double standard - he liked her to be home, she understood, but she deserved to get out every once in awhile, didn't she.
Catching the glass the bartender slid across the bar at her, Lily cupped it between her hands as her nose crinkled when another puff of smoke was blown her way. That was part of the reason she never came to place like these. The smell always seeped into her clothes and hair, and seemed to stay there for weeks afterwards. But she needed this. This unwinding. This bit of fun and by goodness, she was going to have it whether James liked it or not.
And that's how she got three sheets to the wind. Feeling spiteful, she had had a few more drinks than she would have otherwise. Now, everything felt decidedly better, her body was nice and warm, and for some reason, she couldn't stop smiling no matter how hard she tried not to. It was bizarre and she had only ever been like this one other time in her life - the night after they had finished their seventh year.
