Re: Damocles Trotter Investigation
After interviewing Alphard Black along with various others in Hogsmeade (see attached, Appendices A through E), the investigation into the torture and murder of Damocles Trotter seems to have reached a dead end.
With no direct witnesses, no usable forensic evidence from the scene (Appendix F) or from Trotter's body (Appendix G), and no shortage of people who wished to see Trotter dead (see attached clippings from the Daily Prophet as well as transcripts from WWN broadcasts), there are no immediate leads.
While this investigator has certain theories about this crime (Appendix H), none of them can be substantiated without considerable investment of time, money, and personnel. Considering the other troubles that have been occurring, the DMLE cannot afford at this time to pursue any of these theories.
The case shall remain open but inactive until such time that new evidence comes to light.

Official Ministry Release
As announced earlier today, the DMLE had arrested, Joseph Mildew, after he resisted routine questioning. Early this morning he was found dead in his cell. After an internal investigation and a medical examination, it was determined he died by his own hand. At this point, Mr Mildew is considered a suspect in the murder of Rebecca Smith and the attempted murder of Alexander Smith. After searching his office and home, evidence has been located that indicates he is a prime suspect, along with the werewolf, Damocles Trotter. The DMLE is searching for information regarding known associates of Mr. Mildew, and will continue investigating the murders. Any person with information should contact the DMLE immediately.
