Prompt: Final Fantasy VII, Aeris/Cloud: gender switch - being the strong one
Summary: Something is up with Cloud, and Aeris has an idea how to fix it...
A/N: My sincerest apologies for this being very very late. I'd already been offline for a few days out of no fault of my own, and now suddenly I've found myself in another country (guess where?) But I think I've got my bearings now I'm stationary for a few weeks. May I also mention that I wrote this on the plane over, and it's about the 5th rewrite. This prompt nearly got the better of me. XD
Aeris knelt by Cloud's side in the darkened atmosphere of the church, her hands clasping gently to a most delicate but powerful object - a strange pearlescent materia Cloud had never seen the likes of before. Her lips whispered a single word and suddenly her unclothed body was enveloped in a haze of light, the materia's spell glowing a shade of orange so beautifully pale it appeared to melt into Aeris' very skin.
The girl smiled as she took Cloud's hand, the light then spreading over his own nakedness, bathing them both in the ethereal aura until it winked out without warning, flooding their eyes with black. The air seemed chokingly dense all of a sudden.
"You okay?" the blonde spoke quietly as his vision began to adjust, glancing up to where the other ought to be. Her face was hard to see in the dim light, but once his mako-eyes kicked in he could easily make out the subtle features of it. And while it was definitely still Aeris' face he was looking at, at the same time, it wasn't her at all.
Emerald eyes, button nose, honey-brown hair - it was all present as expected, there was just something about her actual form that was... sharper. Different. Un-feminine.
"Aeris...?" he started, not knowing where to go.
"I'm okay Cloud..." Her voice sounded surprised, but she smiled brightly after a moment's pause, as though she was finally beginning to understand something that had been bugging her for weeks. "It's still me. But with something a little extra, I suppose?"
"What do you mean?" What had she done? What had the materia done?
Aeris flushed pink in the dark light, speaking softly, "Let me show you, my beautiful Cloud."
The girl seemed to move in slow motion as she laid her frame atop the blonde, entwining their fingers and lowering them between his legs. Cloud yelped in fright when he recognised what it was he was feeling, the warm folds of flesh and the odd dampness in between... But how could this be? Looking down he quickly noted the two mounds that adorned his chest - they were small but still there all the same - and then of course the absence of his 'manhood' a bit further below, now only the smooth curve of hips and abdomen that gave way to where his and Aeris' fingers lay. And then Aeris herself - still soft-looking, even with the flat planes of her torso, but in sharp comparison to the gradually swelling length that was situated between her hips, so obviously masculine that it was. She (he couldn't think of her as a 'he') began to move their hands just slowly against his sensitive skin, and he failed to restrain the ecstatic whimper that rushed to fall from his lips - the pleasure felt different and somehow uncontrollable, yet it was so good and so real; he didn't quite know how to respond.
"This is what you wanted, is it?" The brunette's words were inquiring but filled with a dawning comprehension, and her expression was thoughtful as she guided their fingers inside of Cloud's body. She didn't stop as she then moved the intrusion further inside, the blonde not fighting it at all, only instinctively sliding his legs wider apart - offering himself. Catching his half-lidded eyes she noticed he didn't seem to even realise what he was doing, as if he were unquestioningly giving in to something, though she didn't quite know what. After all their time together they'd never progressed this far, Cloud always pulling away when she'd asked for him, wanting them to make love together. So why did it take his becoming female to allow him to get past this wall, or whatever it might have been? Why did he react like he was used to this kind of invading touch, his body lying there in perfect submission?
The more she thought about it, the more Aeris found the pieces falling steadily into place - his absolute devotion to Sephiroth and Zack, the closeness they tried to hide, and their 'disappearance' from his life... They'd left him in the middle of a desert without a compass, though somewhere deep down, he'd known all along where he was meant to be.
"This is what you really needed, all this time? To be giving up your strength to somebody else?"
The blonde looked away, ashamed and slightly defeated. "I never had strength to begin with."
"But you gained it along the way anyway. You've probably wanted to be rid of it all this time, and this makes it okay doesn't it? Being this way... Or that's what you believe."
"I... It is. I- I do." Cloud was shaking. How had she known? He'd felt utterly guilty all those times he pulled away from Aeris, but hadn't understood why he couldn't touch her like that, why it had felt so wrong. And then her producing that materia out of the blue, giving him this... How had she known?
The Cetra withdrew the fingers from inside Cloud's body, carefully sliding herself between his thighs and waiting. And Cloud sighed aloud as he was then filled, realising in the very same moment just how right this felt. How right it was that he was allowed to surrender for a change, how right that it was Aeris who was relieving him of this burden. She had always been the strong one anyway, taking such good care of all those around her. Yes, she was the one with true strength.
"You don't have to fight any more Cloud," she murmured breathily against his ear, pressing herself inside the blonde as far as their bodies allowed. "I'll do it for you."
Cloud closed his eyes in relief. Completely, she knew. And understood.
He was never meant to be the strong one.

The blonde let himself curl into the presently larger body Aeris possessed, her more expansive hands resting protectively on the slope of his waist, and a single question hanging on the edge of his tongue.
"Aeris, where did you get that materia?" He'd never known the likes of it existed.
"My mother gave it to me, and she told me I only had to say a single word to make it work, and that word is all the explaining it needs."
"It's not just a... a gender-switching thing?"
"Nope. Never was."
"Oh. So... what's the word? What is it?" Cloud looked to her with hope.
She gazed back at the blonde with meaningful and all-knowing eyes, eyes that could see into his very soul.
"'Wish.'"
