Name: Regulus Arcturus Black House: Slytherin Year (for 1975-1976): Fourth Blood Status: Pure-blood Birthday: January 16, 1961 Pet (if any): A black cat with a white underbelly named Faiblesse. She pretty much lives in Regulus' room, and he does his best to draw as little attention to her as possible. He has owned her since he was a first year student, and became more attached to the cat then he intended. He doesn't like it when he is forced to admit it, though, considering his attachment a weakness. The cat is named Faiblesse (french for flaw) because he originally wanted a cat which was entirely black, but couldn't find one that was sufficiently magical. Her white belly was the only flaw he has ever found in his feline companion, besides perhaps her tendency to bother him while he's trying to do his homework.
Physical Appearance: Regulus resembles his brother in many ways. He has the same dark hair and pale eyes, common among almost all of the Black clan. He is on the thin side, and is still quite short. Over time, he has developed a threatening stance and a glare toward anyone who seems to be trying to take advantage of his diminutive size. Pride oozes out of him at every movement, his shoulders held back and his back held straight and tall.
Biography: Regulus was raised to the standards of the great and pure house of Black. As the younger brother, he was never held to as great of expectations as his brother Sirius was, and perhaps this was why he was the one to meet them instead. He had a lovely childhood, looking up to his older brother greatly until the news came home - Sirius had been sorted into Gryffindor. Regulus was shattered by the knowledge that his idol had allowed this incredible embarrassment to the Black family to occur, as his mother ranted time and time again about how this reflected on them all. When his own letter arrived a year later, he was consumed with worry that he too would become a hated Gryffindor and shame his family. Stresses were high between him and his brother that summer. He spent much time with the house-elf Kreacher that summer, despite his parents' slight disapproval. Although the house-elf was a lesser being, of course, it seemed much better than the alternative - being forced to spend time with his brother.
Thankfully, Regulus was sorted into Slytherin almost before the hat could come to rest on his head. It took him longer than most to become accustomed to the Slytherin way, after so much time spent with his brother. He avoided Sirius as much as possible, taking refuge instead in his cat, Faiblesse. The other Slytherins could not be trusted, of course - if his own brother could betray him and their family, there was no way he could rely on simple schoolmates. As rumours about Lord Voldemort began to flow through the school, he slowly began to try to endear himself to the older Slytherins, those rumoured to have the most information about the Dark Lord. His promises of purifying the wizarding world appealed to him greatly. He regards many students of his own age with scorn, believing himself to be much more knowledgeable and intelligent than they.
Likes: Faiblesse; family history; his parents; learning; knowledge of all kinds, but especially that which pertains to other people; transfiguration.
Classes: Astronomy, Charms, DADA, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Arithmancy and Divination
Extracurricular Activities: Regulus regularly puts aside his distaste for muggleborn students to be part of S.P.E.W. He does not believe that all elves should be set free, but rather that they should be given the choice to leave and should be treated with more respect.
He is also a part of the duelling club. (an aside: is it necessary to comment on the activities entry if it's stated in this application, or is that only if one is joining the club after becoming a member of the RP?)
Romantic history: He has none to speak of, and it would take quite a bit of effort to convince him that a romantic entanglement would be anything but trouble.
What was your character’s status before Dumbledore’s spell? He died a mere year after leaving Hogwarts.
Current Students: Regulus wishes to continue doing as well as possible in school, as well as become closer to those students with the closest ties to Lord Voldemort. He wants to get as much information as he can about his plans and ideals.
Writing Sample: First Person: Today's been an incredibly stressful day for me. I am, of course, quite confident that I did well on the written portion of the Potions test, it is the practical part that worries me. I am not sure that the colour of my Befuddlement Draught exactly matched the one that Professor Slughorn made. Hopefully my grade will remain at least an E.
It certainly didn't help that someone has been teasing Faiblesse, yet again. If I come back to the dorm to find that she is running wild around the common room again, there will be hell to pay. All of you know quite well that she does not behave that way unless taunted. I do not appreciate being forced to clean up her mess because you idiots don't know how to leave well enough alone.
I suppose this is quite enough for now. I don't particularly feel like elaborating today.
Third Person: Regulus threw down his bag wearily, grateful that his dorm roommates hadn't yet returned from supper. Faiblesse came out from under his bed at his return, climbing up into his lap almost before he had leaned all the way back onto his bed. She purred softly as she made herself comfortable, snuggling into him. The look of affection on his face as he scratched her behind the ears would seem strange to anyone who saw it, so rarely could he be caught looking at anything this way.
There was a rare moment of peace, where he was simply a boy enjoying the company of his cat. Not concerned about the purity of blood, the childish, sneaking politics of the Slytherin house, or even the homework he had to do. Just the warm, fuzzy feeling as his fingers glided along the soft fur behind his cats ears, the deep purr of contentment emitting from the creature in his lap.
When the door opened, Faiblesse quickly leapt from his lap and snuck under the dresser. Faiblesse had learned early on to keep away when others were present, that she would get no love from Regulus if she stuck around. It took Regulus only a moment more to compose his face into neutrality, and only a moment more to turn it into a sneer, angry at being disrupted.
"You might learn to knock," He spat. "I could have been getting dressed." Regulus was known for being a prude, disliking anyone watching him while he was getting undressed. It was generally regarded by the other Slytherins as being a weakness to exploit, but Regulus rather felt that it showed him who was too crude to at least appear to respect boundaries. Anyone who obviously tried to see him getting dressed lacked subtlety and any form of tact. And if he didn't realize, well, then it couldn't really bother him, could it?
It had taken him a while to come up with a good, Slytherin reason for his discomfort, and he was actually quite proud of the result, even as he tried to pretend it was the only reason.
Out of Character:
Name: Jamie Age: I would rather not say, if it's all the same. Old enough, haha. E-mail: jamehsan@hotmail.com AIM screen name (if applicable): Time Zone: Newfoundland Standard Time (-3.5) PB: Tom Sturridge. I've been unable to find a list of used PBs, but for what it's worth, I would be using icons made by a certain user, from one particular movie, so even if he is being used by another character, there is a slight possibility that I'll be able to get away with it anyways. Roleplaying experience, if any: Only three journal-based roleplays, from quite a long time ago, and a good number of forum-based ones. I can provide links if requested, but they may be difficult for me to refind. Why do you want to join this group? I've been away from roleplaying for quite a while, and this looks like an awesome place to get back into it. I've actually never done any sort of Maurader-era roleplay before, so it's going to be fun. Where did you hear about Operation Redo? I believe it was on the character_rpg community on LiveJournal.
