Accidental Purge

I just want everyone to know that we are going to be closing out the remaining support requests in the coming few days. I know this sounds like a broken record, but we closed about 50 last night and will continue until we are done.

Also, we understand this is not going to be a popular move, but all new requests submitted after this post are no longer going to be eligible for compensation for lost accounts due to the accidental purge in January. We have no way to verify these requests and have been going on the word of our users for every single case.

We feel that we have given a significant amount of time for users who have lost accounts to discover this fact and let us know. As this is a business that needs to continue to cover it's own costs, it cannot do that if we continue to give away free items.

Please bear with us if you have an open request, these are handled on a case by case basis and will be done as quickly as possible.

As always your feedback is appreciated and welcomed, negative and positive alike.

Account Codes

Account codes are now required on InsaneJournal. They can be given as gifts from existing accounts (http://www.insanejournal.com/invite/) or you can purchase one by buying a paid account for an email address (which will allow you to create an account AND become a paid member).

If you want to generate new account codes, visit http://www.insanejournal.com/invite/ . Please report any bugs with the invite code system ASAP and we will resolve them asap.

Today's OUtage

Last night our primary database ran out of space. We had to use this time to perform a very long and intense maintenance on our database that took over 12 hours to complete. We are very sorry for being online, but this was a necessary outage that we had been putting off for quite some time.

It's The End of the World (As We Know It)

I apologize for the downtime last night. I couldn't get to Facebook or Twitter to update. It appears that the spammers hit us hard last night. I took some measures that will (hopefully) mitigate this in the future. I am very very sorry for being unable to communicate this.

Delayed Notificatuions

We have a serious backlog of notifications due to a number of recent issues. This is being dealt with an extra processes have been fired off to help out with the backlog. We will look into optimizing this process once we have cleared out the current queue.

If you do not seem to be getting notifications at all, please check with your email provider or make sure we are set to make it through any spam filtering.

Outage

To keep everyone up to date, we are back online now (obviously). We had an issue with the settings on our userpic server, I was trying to speed up replication and went too far. I had to reboot the server. After rebooting, the server would no longer see the network cards. This caused the site to go offline.

After working with the hosting company for the past 3 hours we finally have the issue resolved and the site is back online. We are extremely sorry for this and all the other recent issues.

Icon Issue

While the majority of the icons that were missing are now back, we are still showing a very small number of broken icons. We are going to have to concede that these few icons are now gone. Once again we cannot apologize more for this error and are working to correct it so this doesn't happen again.

It appears that some number of userpics may have been lost. We had a disk failure though we did not expect to have any userpic loss as they are supposed to be replicated over several disks. However we have received a report of a user who has lost some userpics. We are looking into why they weren't. We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused.

We have modified our captcha system we are using on our main journal creation page. We are now using an new system that provides more security and allows us to have another revenue stream. Please let us know if you have any issues.

The continuing fight against spam

To continue our ongoing battle against the spam accounts that are continually being created here on InsaneJournal, we have implemented the industry standard "reCAPTCHA" system on our account creation page.

Please let us know ASAP if you run into any problems creating accounts now that this is in place.

Username Purge

I didn't want to lump this in with the last post, but we are starting a username purge immediately. This is partially to help with site load as we want to purge unused data from the system. We are also doing it because of the number of requests we have gotten. Keep an eye out for e-mails from us if your account is caught up in this so you can save it.

If you do not un-delete your account within two weeks and it is purged, your data will be gone forever!
