Username Purge (an update)

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
This is going to take probable 3-4 weeks to get all of the inactive accounts as there are a lot of them and I don't want to kill the servers doing this.

As always you can see what usernames are available here.

  • I have to say I'm a little peeved off about this. What do you class as "inactive"? accounts I've logged into THIS year or even created this year or end of last have been deleted also.

Annoyingly I have to go and log in and undelete a ton of accounts. Please at least let us know what you class as an inactive account as it seems like it's if it's not been logged into for a month or you just class postless accounts as inactive which is ridiculous as I don't post in all my accounts and I don't log in to all my accounts every month.
    • logging into an account will classify it as active. These accounts had not been logged into during this time. If you are using a cookie manager to switch accounts, it is likely that you aren't triggering an event like typing in a username/password would cause.
      • Squeak this sucks.. I didn't get any warning about purging until I had a notice saying my acct was gonna be deleted in 14 days. Not everyone logs into their accts daily or reads any news pages.. on these kinds of things.. you should send out warning WAY before you decide to make accts deactivated. >:( What if I had been on vacation or had been stuck in a disaster and had no way to access my email for 14 days and then all my accts were gone? I would have been SO PISSED.

I don't access my acct daily because its a private journal that I write about private matters whenever I get emotionally downtrodden so that I can perk myself back up. I would have been SO UPSET to lose so much private content.

There just needs to be a better way to warn people than the current system...

I found this website after Greatestjournal went down. That was where I had my private journal stationed previously. I really liked this website and I do still like it.. but right now this process just irritates me and makes me upset. :(
      • I always log in with LJ-Login via Greasemonkey. Does this mean my logins are not registered somehow? I have posted an entry with all of my accounts. Will this protect them, or are they still in danger of other random purges that many, many of us are only notified of AFTER the fact? (In the age of bookmarks, how hard would it have been to send a message BEFORE deletion? Even Livejournal did that.)

I am highly disappointed in how this whole affair was handled, from the lack-of-information, the deletion of obviously used accounts under the guise of "deleting spam bots," and the fact that nasty harassment of users giving valid feedback of their concerns has not been acknowledged by site administrators, despite being on these very pages.

I must seriously reconsider any further financial support of this site, and I can't be the only one. Some people may be pleased by this, and those people may give you money, but they aren't and weren't the only ones here.
        • Stop flipping out over nothing. "Deletion", as in a little line through your user name, means nothing until accounts are actually purged. Any account with a line drawn through it can be re-activated by its owner by simply logging in and following the link in the email - or simply going to "account status" and re-setting it to "active", and we've all been informed we have two weeks to do that. "Deleted", as in with a little line through it, is only the filtering process. I've been doing all of mine as the reminders have come in since it's actually most convenient that way. If you want to be sure you don't have any that are missed, use that list you made, log into all your accounts so they show recent activity and for the ones that are "deleted" already, re-activate them. Problem solved. Sheesh!
    • This pisses me off too! I use this place for my private journal where I put very private thoughts when the mood strikes me so I dont always log into it.-_- I didnt even get any previous warning before I get an email about this delete status and log in to see my name is striked through. There needs to be better classifications on how these journals are found to be inactive.
    • i can see why people with memorial journals added are worried, i can see why people with friends on vacation for a few weeks are worried. however, i don't really see why you're complaining, check all your journals now or in a week before the purging starts to make sure you're safe, log into the ones you want to keep. you make a lot of money from this website in tradingspaces, you shouldn't sound as ungrateful as you do. as with any process there are going to be errors, a journal i haven't logged into much was deleted, i logged in and undeleted it. i am positive i logged into it sooner than january 1st of 2010 but it was deleted. i didn't gripe, i just undeleted it. and sorry if my response comes off as rude but i can't imagine the time squeaky has to take aside from his real life day to put into this server. you profit from the sales of those journals you made for free, as do many of us... so i wouldn't exactly complain about having to undelete them, that's all.
      • exactly.
      • >you make a lot of money from this website in tradingspaces

People actually sell journal accts for money on this website? REAL money? Wtf?
    • I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you log into your journal and have at least had SOME kind of usage of it since January 2010, then you're fine. This will mainly affect people who create journals and never use them. Seriously, if you created a journal over 17 months ago and you haven't logged in, haven't updated, haven't done ANYTHING with it, then obviously you don't need it.
