There was a bit of downtime this afternoon due to an outage at our hosting provider. Just wanted to let everyone know that we were on top of it and fully aware. Everything is back up at this time.

Also just to let everyone know, we are now doing daily backups of the databases on the site so we can handle any catastrophe. Unfortunately these backups cause about 15 minutes of downtime each day. Right now we are scheduling the backups at 2:30PM (Eastern/US). This will switch to 3:30PM once Daylight Savings ends. We are looking into ways to do this with less user impact.

      And to expand on Daylight Savings, it begins in the spring and ends in the fall. :) That's why it's called "Spring forward, Fall back."

    Are they manual updates? If so, then I guess 2:30 pm is as good a time as any. If they're automated, though, how about a less busy time like, say, 2:30 AM?

      Actually, 2:30AM is very possibly a more busy time of day. That's the time frame that there have been broken icons which, according to Squeaky, are because of "peak usage."

      I agree with [info]house. While on average (and these are my own observations) Americans are awake between 6:00a.m. and 9:00p.m. their respective time zones (typically between 10:00a.m. - 1:00a.m. EDT and 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. EST), the users on this site in the rest of the world have different schedules. For example, people in England are usually awake between 2:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. EDT and 1:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. EST.

      Actually 2:30pm is less busy than 2:30am. I might move them to a little bit earlier. Right now I want to be able to keep an eye on things while they run

    I would think that early in the am would be better, but I haven't seen statistics to prove that. :P

    Thank you for everything, Squeaky! Just a question... is there a reason my adblocker is no longer blocking ads from this site? It's an annoyance to me and I can't exactly afford a paid account at this time, so I use Firefox's free adblock, which like I said, seems to have stopped working...

      it looks like the ads have been changed into text-based ads, that's why.

        Where the adds always placed there? Cause that's a crappy place to put them, makes the profile pages look cluttered.

          it used to be at the top of the page or at the bottom, but i noticed that in the past few months or so, it moved to that weird position. really bad positioning & it's hideous.

      They're definitely an annoyance, but users using AdBlock is probably the reason IJ has switched to text ads that are much more difficult to block. What's free for you has to be paid for some way, and paid accounts don't bring in enough money in themselves.

        Agreed. The website is free to use (and boy, do we use it), but it's not free to maintain.

    my boyfriend is in england and he has been having trouble loading ij for the past two or three days. he's used firefox, internet explorer, and google chrome and none of them will load ij. or it will load fine for a few hours and not work for the rest of the day. do you know why this is happening? is it another server/ip attack or something?
