Weekend Sale and Site Update

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
Edit: The sale has started!

Due to recent demand we are going to run a sale for this weekend only. Starting tonight at 8:00pm EDT running until Sunday at 8:00pm EDT we are putting Permanently Insane accounts and Insane Userpics back up for sale.

Permanently Insane accounts will be sold for $60 and Insane Userpics will be sold for $175.

So for slightly more than the cost of 2 years of InsaneJournal paid status, you can become Permanently Insane, and for $175 you can get access to 5000 userpic slots so you can have all the userpics you want.

Now for the site update. I know that there are a number of outstanding bugs on the site. It has been awhile since I have been able to address them. Because they are becoming stagnant, I am going to clear some time and really try to get as many of them fixed as I can this Sunday.

Here are the known site bugs that I will be working on all day Sunday. If you know of any other bugs that are not on the list, please let me know here, and before you report a bug, make sure someone else hasn't already reported it in the comments.

* Posting by email
* directory.bml hangs searching
* Comments still seem to be disappearing.
* Quickreply to comments not working
* Edit userpics page loading slowly for users with lots of userpics (Firefox is still slow but won't timeout and give an error as a temporary workaround)
* Adding friends via the admin console causes custom groups to get emptied
* Joining a closed membership asylum
* Timezones on update page not reflecting change in DST in United Stats
* align= and border= options in image tags being striped by the HTML cleaner
  • I'm still having MAJOR issues with getting comments in Yahoo/SBCGlobal emails. As in, not getting ANY except one or two here or there. It's been going on for 4 or 5 days now and I'd really like it to be addressed. I don't want to be a bitch about it because you are fantastic and do so much but if you could just say what's up with that, I'd appreciate it.
  • This isn't exactly a bug, but if you're going to be tinkering with things anyway, there's this on the front page of the site:

At InsaneJournal we believe in freedom of expression. We will not censor content unless it obviously violates United States law and we receive an offical takedown notice. We no not self-police the site.

The part where it says "We no not self-police..." has been bugging me for ages. Could we get that typo fixed?

(Yeah, I know, it's extraordinarily petty. And not a big deal, and not even a bug, but since you asked...)

[This post has been made in the sure knowledge that any comment made to point out a typo and/or spelling error is sure to contain at least one mistake of its own.]
  • YAY For permanent accounts and the userpics thing.
  • Emails are not being sent to asylum moderators when users request to join for moderated membership asylums. Not sure if this is related to the closed membership asylum bug, but thought I'd mention it. Thank you for all your hard work!
  • * There are no Birthday notifications. I don't know if that's a bug or just a discontinued feature, but in case.

    * The warnings on the site that you have a Private Message (the "you have a private message, do you want to read it now?") either doesn't show up or shows up weeks too late.
I am not sure if there's supposed to be email notifications for those, but if there are, that's not working either.

    (I use gmail.)

Good luck with it all and thank you so much for the hard work!
  • Since the code update, there are error messages at the bottom of pages in the Lynx sitescheme - e.g.

[Error: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/PageStats.pm line 99. @ ijwebsever-raven1.insanewebhosting.com]
    or
[Error: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/PageStats.pm line 99. @ ijwebsever-earthquake2.insanewebhosting.com]

Everything seems to work fine, though, so whatever is happening, it's apparently not dire.

the search feature above doesn't work. i know it's probably to do with feedster and not this website, but if they've discontinued their service, you might as well remove the option or find another site that does the same thing?
  • Seems like posting by mail isn't working.
  • I'd grab another perm, but eh, four is enough.
  • 8pm eastern, I assume?

Here's one that's not a huge bug, but is annoying:

I use the style=mine option from my flist, so when I click from my flist, I get everyone's IJ in the basic/noncustomized appearance, right? And on LJ, this means that when I comment, then, I still have style=mine. Here, once I comment, I get their custom appearance, and have to re-add style=mine if I want, you know, legible-to-me/worksafe/kidsafe/whatever. I think that's a bug. I can screenshot if that doesn't make sense to you.

    Firefox 2.x.
  • Issue I don't see listed

I still cannot preview posts to my own journal. When I click on button, it acts like it's loading, but the screen comes up blank. It's happened with both FireFox 2 and FireFox 3.
  • Hey man, I just want to say thanks for all your hard work. You seem to have been working constantly since the strikethrough and this Bud's for you! Cheers.
  • I've never been able to delete notifications in the message center, so they just keep accumulating. I don't know if it happens to anyone else and it's not that big a deal but I thought I'd mention it. Anyway, thanks for everything you're doing for the site. :-)
  • I cannot get the search function to work properly. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with that problem, but I am so technologically UNsavvy, that I have no idea if it's mass user error or not.

It would be great to use that function to find communities and things. *hopeful*

    Thank you for being awesome!
  • Comment notifications keep ending up in my Yahoo bulk folder. And it's happening to at least two other people I know of.
  • Bug?

Ok, I'm not sure if this is a bug or just something screwy with this account. When the switch to the new servers happened some of my custom colors got deleted and my backgrounds were white. I have been able to fix all of them except this account.

I put my custom colors in then hit save changes, and it just clears them and doesn't do anything. It's not a huge deal I can just use one of the pre made color schemes, i just wondered why I can't change them for this account.

    Thanks!
  • Thanks so much for addressing the post by email thing! Over two months and going crazy as my main posting is via email on my phone.

Id it helps, I get these errors:

    Recipient address: mikoto@post.insanejournal.com
    Reason: Illegal host/domain name found

    And after a week....

    Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure)
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.4.7 - Delivery expired (message too old) 'no valid ip addresses'
  • Okay, checked the comments, this isn't there.

I'm being bombarded by spambots. I keep getting weird Anon comments and email notifications. I noticed this was happening on LJ too, and I actually use two different email addys for each site. So it's not that. And of course I deleted them. *headdesk* I can forward one to you next time I recieve one, maybe it can be tracked. I've spoken to a few people that this has happened to.
  • stats/stats.txt doesn't consistently update

stats/stats.txt hasn't updated itself in several days, at the least, and the last update was probably when you nudged it when I last mentioned it wasn't updating.
  • Not sure if this is in the queue or not, but I don't think so. From the main page, once logged in, under "My Account" the headings appear to be so close together that when you display the 4 drop-down options under "My Account", you only get "Manage" for the 2nd and 3rd ones (not stating what gets managed). "Manage Profile" and "Manage Status" (1 and 4) drop down just fine. I use Firefox for my browser.
  • Thanks so much for doing this [info]squeaky! Both the sale, which I might avail myself of, and the bug fixes, even if you can't possibly get to them all.

Oh and thanks for fixing the FAQ page so that the links actually go somewhere now, good job!

The bug I'd like to bring back to your attention is the one that you and I were discussing last September here:
    http://asylums.insanejournal.com/ideas/29158.html
It's still a big problem for me.

  • Hi Squeaky! Don't overwork yourself, ok?

I don't use a lot of those features so I can't comment on them being buggy or not, but I do know that this one affects me: Edit userpics page loading slowly for users with lots of userpics

Firefox actually has timed out on me before. I just got a new computer though so it has been more cooperative.
  • I get this error when I log in with my Blackberry on any page.

[Error: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/PageStats.pm line 99. @ ijwebsever-brain2.insanewebhosting.com]

Also, when moderated membership approval goes through, if I have changed an old email to a new one, instead of not getting an email notification for it, I get it on an old email.
  • I'm sorry if this has been asked before, Squeaky, but is there any way to transfer a paid account to another name?
  • ive had journals taken from me without my knowledge. i dont know if you get this sort of comment alot, probably, but i was wondering if there was somethign you could do about it. im not asking you to run around and have people give it back, but something could be done to keep this from happening to people in the future.

alot of sites have verification emails sent to the orginal email before the change of email or password can take effect, that way it cant be changed by anyone other then the registered owner. would there be any way you could do that to insanejournal?

thanks for your time. sorry if this was alittle confusing. im not always the best at describing things.
