We are having some issues with the one of our webservers. For an update check out our twitter page at http://www.twitter.com/insanejournal

Edit: Everything is back to normal.

What happened: I had to reboot a server and it didn't come back up. I had to get the site's hosting provider to nudge the server into working again.

    The first thing I thought when I noticed lag was, "Well, I'm sure Squeaky's got something up on [info]news."

    And of course, I was right. You are teh awesome.

    I don't really give a shit whether it's slow or not - I care whether the owner is aware and keeping us posted. And you are. After the GJ fiasco, I want to buy you chocolates.

    • No, that would be the occasional comment rot that Insane journal currently suffers from. I think [info]squeaky hopes to sort this out in the next site upgrade but that keeps getting put back because he's getting things running smoothly for the influx of new users, which I'm sure you'll appreciate that keeping the site running as smoothly as possible is [info]squeaky's main objective before he starts doing upgrades to it.

    My spouse is new too. Next month he will be buying a permanent account too. :-)

    Thank you for the updates. It makes me (and everyone I know) feel so much better knowing that we now have an admin who actually cares about us and takes the time to keep us in the loop. And, of course, who works so hard on top of it all too. XD

  • i have a few questions, sorry if they have been asked, but i looked in the faq and i didn't see them.

    1. when is the new layout for ij supposed to be up?
    2. will we ever get to delete the "fellow friends" section on our friends lists?
    3. will we ever get notifications?
    4. if there is a username that has been sitting around since 04 and hasn't been touched with zero entries, is there a way we could purchase that account? because if possible i would like to purchase an account that has been sitting around since 04 and not being in use. i can tell it hasn't been used either, there's no entries in it.

    ^^personally, i think we should be able to buy accounts if they have NO entries and have been sitting there not being used, with the email still in the userinfo and everything. is there a way that this could happen? i think you could make money off of it because i'd buy a few accounts since some i want havent been used since they day they were made in 2004.

    5. what is the rule on account trading? i am just curious since i didn't see it in the faq.
    6. you said there wasn't going to be a rule on this anytime soon but - how many accounts are we allowed to have on one account, and if this rule changes when you post in ~announements does that mean we'll have to delete our uns?

    sorry for all these questions, but if you could answer me back on all of these that would be amazing as i am very curious. thank you for being so amazing.
    • i can tell it hasn't been used either, there's no entries in it.

      Some people use their accounts to read friends only locked posts of others.
      • there's no friends on it so how can they see the friends only posts...

    Two days I have been trying to leave a question in suport this is what I get.

    Most likely causes:
    There might be a typing error in the address.
    If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

    What you can try:

    Go back to the previous page.

    Go to and look for the information you want.

    I know a lot of things are going on right now, and I have restarted my computer and sometimes when I come to annoucments I can log in from that page for some reason but it's becoming a little irritating since I can't login or send in a ticket, I don't get it?

      What site scheme are you using, there are some bugs with the older site schemes. If you are trying to click support from a profile page it may not work. Just type in www.insanejournal.com/support
  • It could just be me barely keeping my eyes open, but I couldn't find where to put in a support ticket, so I'll post it here instead.

    I'm noticing that whenever I browse someone else's friends page, I cannot view locked entries. For example, if we're both in the same community or have the same friends and I look at that person's friends page, I see the public community entries or the public friends entries, but not the locked posts. I dunno if that's intentional or a bug or anything, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention. I hope that all made sense!
    • actually I noticed that as well. On my friends page I can read the friends entries but if I go to the community and click friends you can not view the friends entries of members of the community. Even though they have me and all the communities listed as friends.

      So I'm curious on this too.
  • Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent approach to customer service. It's such a refreshing change.

  • i didn't know where else to say this...

    insanejournal is way slow today. pages load, but take 3 or 4 times as long as usual.

    is this b/c of something in flux?
