Well, I recently moved here from LJ. And I have to say that I've felt more welcome here in the few weeks I've been around than I did in two years on LJ. They truly act as though we (the users) are simply ATMs who will cough up money on their whim.

What is so sad is that so many of those users left there actually do.

I like the LJ format for posting and comments and so on. When I started shopping around in May for a new home, Blogger was there on the list (since I already had an account there), so to was my personal Wordpress blog on my site, and Greatestjournal had been mentioned many times. All other sites were pretty much the same as those three in base usability.

I'll admit that I went with GJ simply because it looked to be larger than IJ, for I hadn't heard of Squeeky yet.

I stopped using them pretty fast. Code that was years out of date, even for them, functionality that came from BBSs and regular outages and site wide glitches that killed posts. I think I put up a total of about 15 posts, most of them memes, not anything important.

So when the Great LJ Migration of 2007 started happening around October, I started looking again. I made the decision to come here when the $35 sale for permanent accounts happened and I have NEVER regretted that decision.

User interfaces I know how to navigate around (with only a few minor issues that are probably my fault), familiar code and scripting. My only big regret is that more of those friends I made on LJ haven't abandoned that sinking ship to come here. And I have been singing praises when I can to try to get them here. Even made a few new friends. Some of the functionality they recently added I miss, but it was honestly things I could live without.

I truly don't feel like an exile so much, and I am happy that my mental processes are safe here. Now if only you could send out straitjackets to those who are really insane, that would be perfect.

But then, how could we post?

Anyhow, thank you very much for being here and willing to be a good host. I stick with people who treat their customers as people for a long time. Just ask Drak.net if I don't. Same level of service and concern, same communication with the customers, same rewards to the owner for that. I plan on being here for a long time.
