New servers online

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
Okay everyone, the 2 new webservers are online and ready to go. I have also set them up as redundant userpic servers (mogilefs storage nodes for those of you in the know). Basically what that means is that your userpics are as safe as can be. It also means that the load that the userpics can cause is now distributed among 3 servers instead of just one.

You should start seeing the site running a bit faster immediately even during peak times.

As far as we are aware there are no problems with this. If you are seeing ANY errors with your journal styles or userpics, please let us know and we will work out the issues as soon as possible!
  • SO COOL! Thank you, Squeaky! :D
  • Thank you guys for everything!
  • IJ runs and loads much faster than LJ at this point, YAY!
  • *Hugs*

Bless you and Happy (early) New Year!
  • Go, you!

For a few minutes I did get an error message, any time I tried to read comments or look at profiles, but it seems to have come good.

    Error message copy here: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y122/cheongsam/error.jpg
    • Okay well let me know if it continues at all
  • It's working great for me. Thank you so much :D
  • OH goodies!!!!! I'm uploading the rest of my 300 userpics. *wink*
  • Oh, wicked sweet!

    Thanks again, Squeaky!
  • Thank you, Squeaky! I have noticed the site going a little faster than usual. ^_^
  • Awesome. :D Is that three or four we have up now?
  • This is fantastic and so are you! Switching to IJ and buying a perm acct was the best decision I made this year.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family.
  • Site's running swiftly and smoothly seen from here. Thanks! ♥
  • Hi, me again. Just tried to upload a userpic that needed resizing, which resulted in this error:

    Error

One or more errors occurred processing your request. Please go back, correct the necessary information, and submit your data again.

couldn't parse upload: Unknown format for upload at '/home/lj/htdocs/editpics.bml' line 347, line 8.

So I tried it again, without adding a keyword first, and got a slight change in the error message:

couldn't parse upload: Unknown format for upload at '/home/lj/htdocs/editpics.bml' line 347, line 3.

Anyway, I hope that's helpful. Cheers!
    • Open a support request with that error and we'll see if we can't work that one out asap
      • I've tested it today, and the error wasn't repeated. I was able to get to the userpic factory just fine.

Bugs fixed! All working like a charm *touch wood*. That's excellent. Thanks for all the hard work.
  • Thank you for all your hard work on our behalf. Happy New Year!
    • Youre very welcome. This one was a lot of work for me too, but its worth it
  • Thank you for your great work! I have to second the opinion that IJ runs faster than LJ now. :)

    Happy New Year!
    • Cool, now i get to go out and party on new years!
  • Looks like you fixed the problem with uploading from URL I was talking about before. I've tried on a few different journals and it seems to be running much more smoothly. Thanks.
    • Perfect, thats exactly what I wanted to fixed
  • Getting this message when I try to do a variety of things on the site:
    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@insanejournal.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.37 Server at insanejournal.com Port 80
  • Say, is it normal for me to be getting a 502 error all the time? Or is that just because of these peak times you speak of?
  • Anyone tell you lately, that you rock?
  • You guys are seriously, so, so great. I love it here.

I do have a question. I have a game over on greatestjournal - with upwards of 75 characters there. I don't want to move over here until a) all my members give the go-ahead and b) I wanted to make sure if everyone does move over here, it's not going to create systems-overload here with everyone moving over.
    • We are fine. And any time we run into load issues we deal with them. Read the history of the [info]announcements asylum and you'll see the proof
    • butting in...

We moved two rp communities and our personal journals here about two weeks ago, and we couldn't be happier. It's awesome how [info]squeaky runs this place. :)
      • Re: butting in...

Thank you for that! I appreciate it:) One of my other games has moved here, and I love it. The fact that the staff actually communicates with us is so excellent.
    • The game I am in moved over 300 character journals, with pretty much no problem, and I couldn't be happier that we made to move. It's nice to upload a bunch of icons and have them STAY uploaded. ;)
      • Omg isn't that great? I am going insane with 10, and 10 that don't STAY uploaded. Argh.

Thanks so much for your input, it's making my decision a lot easier:)
        • No problem. IJ is kind of amazing. I'm so much happier RPing here than I was on GJ. I'm almost tempted to move my LJ game over here, too.
  • Your hard work and communication are appreciated more than you'll probably ever know. Moving here from GJ was at first a hard decision, because we've had both OOC and RP character journals there since September 2003. Once things started declining so rapidly there, and we saw how amazingly smooth you run this place, it was a moot decision. Thank you so much, and happy holidays!
  • This isn't related, I don't think, but I'm trying to choose some custom colours for my journal layout, and whenever I click on the 'Choose' button, nothing happens. And none of the HTML codes I put in for colours works. Is there a way this can be fixed?
