Saturday 15th April 1789
Who: ALL!
Where: Viscount of Colchester's estate, Essex
When: Saturday 15th April, beginning at 6.30
What: A BALL.
Notes: The usual applies - if your thread is open, please say so, if it is limited to some characters only, also note in the header!
The Viscount's Estate, set in 10 acres of its own grounds and surrounded by many acres of parkland, is the destination for this grand Soirée. To celebrate his Son's return from fighting a war Lord Weston has arranged a 'Soirée' in honour of his time serving in France and beating the 'Frogs' as it were. With the evenings getting lighter, the ride up the estate is impressive, the main manor house greeting its visitors with a grand first impression.
Guests are invited to make use of the courtyard, a much safer option for a night stroll for at least there should be some light streaming from the windows! The Ballroom** is the center of activity with a string quartet in the corner. Servants stroll around the ballroom, handing out drinks to the guests. The Viscount himself and his boy are situated at the far end of the ballroom, greeting those who approach and engaging in raucous conversation. The Viscount's a very bouncy person, with a large laugh that can be heard throughout the room.
Every guest is announced, and every guest is treated like they are dear friends. There will be dancing, new friendships and old rivalry. Those who need accommodation are welcomed with a room waiting for them at the end of the night. Enjoy!
** Obviously without the tables and chairs and much larger than the picture. Another pic is here
