Tales of the Abyss recipe: isofon Fabre cupcakes!
We made these for the second time today -- the first time they lasted for about two days, between two people. ^^;

And what better thing to break in the asylum than, well, some cupcakes?

cupcakes
1 small (6oz) jar maraschino cherries
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder (?)
1/2 cup pineapple juice

first remove the cherries from their liquid. keep the liquid for later. chop up the cherries. accept that you're going to get your hands dirty. you're not doing it because you want to.

actually make the replica do that part. (hey! why do i get stuck with --)

in the meantime do the real work yourself.

cream together the butter and sugar. add the egg.

add the flour and the juice slowly.

when you forget the baking powder, blame the replica. (that's not fair! you can't make me do the boring part *and* --)

if he'd just shut up you'd remember, after all.

once he's finally done with the cherries, stir them in.

put papers in the muffin tin. put the batter in them. should make 12 except if the replica can't measure.

bake them at 350 for 20 minutes or so.

if somebody was whining constantly and made you forget the baking powder, the cupcakes will come out sort of short and dense. remind you of someone? (Asch, quit being so --)

anyway. let them cool. ice them.

icing
2-3 tablespoons softened butter
some confectioner's sugar
a few spoonfuls of the liquid from the cherries

mix all that stuff together until you have enough icing for all the cupcakes.

it'll come out sort of faded and not really red. just like -- (okay that's it, i'm going to kill you.)

you can try.

anyway.

ice the stupid cupcakes. eat them. they're disgustingly sweet. some people seem to like that sort of thing.

More food for people = more awesome!

Do you have a tagging scheme for the asylum yet? Type of dish, fandom, that sort of thing?

Um. I. Yes? Yes. I do. Totally. >.> *has never run an asylum before*

Both of the above sound good: perhaps by course (appetizer, main dish, soup, dessert, etc) and then by fandom and character? Can anyone add tags or do I have to?

N/m, I've set it up so anyone can add tags. I would like to do it by the above, since being able to find things was the whole point of this exercise.

Sounds good!

...it's now letting me add 'dessert' but that's all. >->;;

You can set it up to work either way. By default, I think, an asylum is set so that only a moderator can add new tags, but any member can apply existing tags to entries.

So if you tagged this entry "tales of the abyss" and "dessert" and then Mith posted her Vossler cheesecake recipe, she'd be able to add the dessert tag to it but would still need you to add the "final fantasy xii" tag.

If that sounds like too much trouble, you should be able to change the settings so that anyone can add tags any way they like. I'm not entirely sure where the setting is for that, but it's probably in the FAQ. ^^

Oh man. Maraschino cherries kind of scare me, given what they do to the poor things to make them, but this sounds crazy tasty anyhow. XD

*laughs* They are indeed pretty terrifying. I don't eat them in other circumstances, but Kiwi wanted to try this idea out, and it wound up being pretty damn good! The pineapple juice sort of balances the cherries and keeps them from being too overwhelming (so I'm glad we had it on hand the first time we made this). ^^

Oh, yeah. Pineapple makes everything better! says the one who happily eats pineapple and asparagus on pizza too. I think what weirds me out the most about maraschino cherries was the Food Network thing I watched on them and how they ended up kind of this completely colorless lump of cellulose that got both flavor and color added back in -- it occurred to me that if someone really, really wanted ultraviolet maraschino cherries that glowed under a blacklight, you could do it.

--damn, how cool would ultraviolet maraschino cherries under a blacklight be?

Especially on the edge of some luminous martini sitting on top of one of those backlit bars...

I think I may have to come up with some kind of excuse to write cyberpunk for notruepair somewhere...
