Your 10pm News Recap with Doris Crockford |
The new legislation proposed last week by Minister Rodolphus Lestrange's cabinet, setting up stricter regulations for the management and control of magical creatures, has been passed by the Wizengamot tonight, after much deliberation. Its approval is conditional though: the Wizengamot requested that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement review the bill to evaluate whether it is solid and workable for the Aurors and hitwizards that will have to apply it. Once approved by the DMLE, the new legislation will be put into place by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, which wholeheartedly supports the new legislation. "This will, ultimately, help to improve on the reputation that werewolves have due to the outlandish and terrible behavior of those who take their frustrations with their lot in life out on innocent people," said Aleron Potts, Department Head. "There are werewolves out there who are just trying to live like normal people, who want to have normal lives. In order to be able to provide that in any sense, we have to regulate them all, and this is honestly the best way to do it." It is only at the end of this process that werewolves will be required to come in and re-register. Information on this regard will be given as soon as made available. The reshuffling of the Department of Magical Games and Sports has earned positive reactions from Quidditch players, notably from Ludo Bagman of the Wimbourne Wasps who made the following statement at the end of today’s practice: "I, me, myself - Ludo Bagman of the Wimbourne Wasps, on behalf of my teammates and the entire British and Irish Quidditch League, would like to show the Ministry and Minister Lestrange our unwavering gratitude in the restructuring and refocus onto our beloved sport. In times of danger and struggle, I believe Quidditch is a unifying force, a positive power in our world, and something all wizards and witches must protect and promote for our heritage." Mr Bagman did not forget the victim of this reshuffling though, adding, "Though as an afficionado and member myself, the Official Gobstones Club will be missed." Following the loss of all its Ministry’s funding in the wake of the recent reshuffling of the Department of Magical Games and Sports, the Official Gobstones Club isn’t ready to close shop yet. A fundraising tournament has been announced. The Club’s board hopes to raise enough money to balance their books until the end of the year. “Activities will be reduced to a minimal, but we can’t give up and abandon,” said Gerda Spitznogle, board member. The tournament will take place on Saturday 23 May. Anyone interested to participate is invited to register directly with the Official Gobstones Club. |
