Who: Roger Davies and Mandy Brocklehurst
What: A day off of work
When: Afternoon
Where: Jogging in the alley followed by tea.
Rating:

Tobias slept quietly in his grandmother's house as Roger left to spend the day alone. It had been quite sometime since he spent the afternoon alone. Tobias was always happy to visit his grandparents, so given the chance to see them was good call. Besides being a single father wreaked havoc all over his personal life. It was in his best interest to get out a time or two.

Roger decided on one thing straight away, he was going to take a nice long jog. The feel of the street hitting against the pads of his feet were a nice change to the usual. If he had the time he would have gone out flying but Roger was hoping to get some time in the company of older people again. So instead of going on a solo flight, Roger made his way back to the apartment to shower the dirt off. Sooner or later he would be out and in public. Life would be brilliant if he could just get some semblance of a social life again.

Mandy cursed herself as she moved toward Quality Quidditch supplies. With each step she was getting closer to the shop, the more apprehensive she would get about seeing Roger. Things had ended really badly between the two of them a few days ago and with no one to discuss the matter all she'd managed to do was twist her words and his into a massive ball which made absolutely no sense any more. She would not even have bothered coming back, allow the matter to breathe, let her forget what Roger'd said and let him forget how she'd ran away. Except... she'd ran away, and in the process left her ruddy handbag. Which was, quite unfortunately, a rather important part of her daily life.

And unlike expected her best mate hadn't seen fit to mail it. Oh no, he'd seen fit to keep the thing and now she really had no other choice but to come after it. By herself. All alone. She could only hope that with Toby there, she wouldn't need to worry about any sort of discussion. After all, it would hardly be seemly with a little boy in the room, right? It was why she'd come just after work during daylight hours. Yes she was a chicken, a big massive one at that!

Walking up the cobblestone path, Mandy slowly made her way from the bank to the shop. She paused as she neared the shop windows, as if willing something in there to stop her from her task. Finding nothing knew and more exciting than what she'd seen the days before, Mandy trudged on toward the back of the shop where the door stood waiting for her. Taking a deep breath, Mandy put her hand up to knock. Another deep breath and she finally knocked, then held her breath, in the vain hope that maybe he wasn't there?

What better way then to get her to come back to the scene of the crime. Roger wasn't going to let her off that easy, not now and not the way she took off. He fancied her for years but it didn't seem to matter in the long run with her. Mandy was always stuck liking that bloody tart Terry, who was a daft as the day was long. But it didn't matter.

Roger didn't have Toby, he was with his grandmother probably being filled with biscuits and tea. There was a reason Tobias had a round middle after a week with that woman, but she only did it out of love not anything else.

At first he hadn't heard the knock, but the second time he did. Roger was already getting dressed by the time the sound hit his ear. Running down to the door in a pair of shorts he opened it thinking it was someone from his shop worried there was trouble. Looking at Mandy he sighed, "You're bag I presume." She obviously wasn't there to see him, Roger turned on a dime and headed up the stairs to retrieve her items.

Mandy blinked as Roger threw open the door. She wasn't expecting him to be home, or rather had hoped he wasn't, and she certainly hadn't expected him to be half naked. Taking a step back, Mandy found herself staring just a little bit too much. Maybe it was the lack on men in her previous position, or maybe it was the questions that she'd been asking herself over and over again, but Roger didn't look half bad. No, he looked rather fit actually. The way he said those words, however, left Mandy feeling more than a little bad. She opened her mouth to apologize but before she even had a chance to do so, he was already off, and tuning up the stairs.

Slowly following him inside, she shut the door behind him and started up the stairwell. "Rog? Listen, I'm sorry!" she called as she continued upstairs. She hadn't really wanted to discuss the matter, but now that she was here, and with the look he'd given her, she felt she really had no choice. "It was really rude and childish of me."

He wasn't expecting company and the only reason he hadn't shipped off her purse was because he was so busy with Tobias all morning. Getting the little boy ready while he slept on was quite a feat. But as Roger pulled it off every couple weeks or so. Though it wasn't his intention to make her feel bad Roger was more then a little hurt that she would go away so abruptly like he was diseased or something. Not that he was but still.

Grabbing the purse off his stone counter top he walked over to her and handed it back, "Mandy forget it. I don't want to talk about it." Roger walked to his room and slipped on a pair of faded and worn jeans. "It happened it's over and I'm sorry I brought it up okay." Though he felt guilty the first night he was no longer feeling bad it wasn't his fault really. He was at least honest with her.

She should have expected as much. It really was incredibly narcissistic of her to think that Roger had spent any time at all thinking about what had happened. Indeed the way he was acting, Mandy realised that she was once more behaving like a child making a large issue out of something that clearly did not matter to Roger, nor should matter much at all to Mandy. So when he rather abruptly handed her things back, Mandy blinked in surprise but nodded.

"Of course, you're right. Consider it forgotten," she agreed, brows still knotted in confusion as she clutched her bag. What she had thought to be a massive confrontation, as quite quickly turning into a non-issue, and she really wasn't sure what to say any longer. "I guess I should be heading back to the Leaky then. Thanks for this, and sorry I wasn't able to come back earlier to get it," she called after Roger as he headed into his room. Slipping her purse back onto her shoulder, she headed back toward the stairwell, certain that Roger had plenty of things to do. "I'll see you later."

No, it wasn't like that at all. Roger had been thinking about it a lot, had been thinking about her a lot. It was the fact that if he let himself get drowned with self doubt and self pity, he wouldn't be able to be the strong parent his son needs so very much. Roger refused to wallow in a pool of sorrow because his best mate doesn't fancy him, and worse yet ran out on him like he had started a second black plague.

Roger dismissed it all together, "Good" he said quietly as she told him it was all in the past now. In the old days Roger would have felt terrible even might have written some long poetic nonsense that was sad and heart breaking but now he just knew the truth she didn't care for him like that. You can't make people feel the way they don't, he learned that bit of knowledge over the years. "Alright have a nice day," he called after her seeing as she was bolting to the door. Roger moved to the stairs to see her leave leaning on the banister.

Mandy walked down the stairs as Roger called his goodbyr. She paused as her hand touched the doorknob and turned around to look behind her. Biting her lower lip she contemplated saying something that wouldn't make it feel like she was making a big mistake, though nothing came. Not seeing Roger, and assuming he was still in his room not bothering to really say goodbye, she sighed.

"Maybe I do want you," she whispered her previous thoughts out loud, as she shook her head, turned back to the door and turned the knob to head out. Proceeding along the alleyway, Mandy found herself running her fingers through her hair in frustration, before casting one last furtive glance toward the wooden door. Telling herself it would be pointless, she turned back around and trudged on.

At this point he was too frustrated to listen to her it wasn't until he heard the door slab he grabbed a shirt off the banister. Putting on his shoes Roger grabbed his wand and walked out of his flat. It had been a while since he felt that aggravated.

Making his way towards the Leaky he decided he was going to get some tea and walk around the streets as usual. Bumping into a girl from Madam Malkin's he chuckled, "Oi Rosa what are you up to today?" The two walked into the Leaky joking around and Roger stepped up to the bar while she made her order for tea. Rosa was a tall drink of water with dark hair, dark eyes, and curves to kill. She wasn't exactly what he wanted but she was fun to look at.

Roger was so preoccupied he didn't notice who else was in the Leaky completely zoned into getting tea and then some air.

Having made her way toward the Leaky cauldron, Mandy entered the establishment and made her way up to her bedroom. She was in the room for a few minutes before deciding that she was going to grab an early dinner. She'd picked up her current book, and ran downstairs into the bar/restaurant.

Once she was downstairs, Mandy glanced about trying to find a place to sit. Finding a spot tucked away in the back, Mandy settled herself in. She didn't notice Roger right away, but when the barmaid came up for her order, Mandy's eyes caught the familiar shape up by the bar. Bugger.

Roger hadn't the foggiest clue that Mandy had entered he was too busy talking with Rosa who was laying on her charms so thick you could cut it with a knife. She leaned over and whispered in his ear causing Roger to chuckle and nudge her with a small smirk, "It's nice to see you too Rosa". He said still smiling.

Taking his tea, Roger looked for an open table and sat down. Looking to the right he grabbed up a folded Prophet and he wanted to read all of the news he missed the past couple days. Tobias really did keep him too busy for words couldn't get much reading in anymore.

Having ordered her meal, and spotted Roger, Mandy had considered walking over to him and saying hello. However after that rather abrupt visit, Mandy had halted the idea. It was a little more difficult not to watch him, though, and she found that from where she sat, that the way the girl was all over him was hardly flattering.

The cheek! Mandy frowned and tried to look back down at her bpook, ignoring the aggravation she felt at the display. Honestly! They may as well get a room. When he left her side, Mandy breathed a small sigh of relief, although she found that she could hardly concentrate on the text in front of her.

Finishing his tea he watched as someone came by to pour him more tea and his eyes glanced over the paper. Yawning he turned the page to go to sports. There he saw his team the Catapults are having a brilliant year, it's brilliant and they were without him. There was a deep pang of sadness felt in his whole body as he read on about his mates a sad look covered his face before he changed the page again avoiding reading further. It was too hard for him sometimes to look at it, to remember the life he once had.

Roger was different now, his life had changed so much there was little time for sports and fun. There was time for him to clean the flat, take care of his son, and run errands. No he wouldn't be off playing games when he had responsibilities today. Hell he couldn't even find himself romancing a woman let alone taking her into a room of their own because he was usually too busy playing father. Putting down the paper he let out a deep sigh trying to get his head straight, maybe he would go out on another run.

Mandy had been watching Roger out of curiosity mostly. She could tell that he was hardly in the best of moods, and her heart reached out to him where clearly she could not. Frowning, she sipped her drink, and tried to turn back to her book. Her attention lasted no more than a minute as she found herself looking up again, though this time it was because of the arrival of her food. Still looking over on occasion, Mandy started on her fish pie.

After a few bites, Mandy shook her head and put her fork down. She really wasn't very hungry any longer. With a frown she looked over at where Roger sat. She wanted to much to join him, to talk to him like they had so often in the past, and yet she couldn't. Oh aye, she said she'd forget, and she would, but she had the distinct feeling that Roger had absolutely no interest in speaking to her. Probably wasn't even thinking of her at all. Indeed, maybe he'd even outgrown her; the very thought chilled her to the bone. Pulling a few coins out of her pocket, she placed them on the table, then closed her book and stood. It was early yet, but all Mandy felt like doing was crawling in bed and feeling sorry for herself. He was likely right; she didn't deserve his friendship, let alone anything more. Book in hand, Mandy abandoned her meal and wove hey way through the pub in the direction of the stairwell.
