Perhaps he really did need a therapist.
John had been rather resistant to the idea of therapy from the beginning. There was nothing wrong with him that time wouldn't fix, and he hated having someone prying at him and his thoughts, trying to figure out the deeper meaning behind everything he said and thought and did. He was a soldier and a surgeon, he was used to having something to do beside sit about and wait for his shoulder to heal and his limp to stop. Trying to explain that to his therapist had failed, and because he wouldn't be impolite, he was distant and unresponsive during their sessions.
If he was now hallucinating entire villages and landscapes, though, perhaps he wasn't adjusting as well as he'd thought.
He leaned on his cane while he surveyed the village. There weren't that many houses in it, but the architecture was... not quite surreal, but very odd. Nothing seemed odd about the individual houses, it was the fact that there was a London townhouse close to an English... manor, he supposed. He was sure there was a proper name for the house, but he didn't know it. It was the sort that should have been placed on some sort of historical registry or possibly turned into a tourist attraction. It looked as though someone had simply plonked down a residence the style of their choosing without regard to what was next door.
The town looked a little more normal, but it was queerly empty. He apparently didn't have enough imagination to hallucinate people. Odd, hallucinations weren't supposed to be this... complete, were they? Auditory, visual, tactile... There ought to be something he could test, especially since he suspected it of being a hallucination. Or perhaps it was just a dream; he'd been getting ready for bed, the last he remembered. This was an amazingly lucid dream if it was one, and he wasn't usually prone to them.
Well. Since he was here, he might as well make the best of it. He just had to decide what his first move should be. Try one of the houses, or head down into the town?
