DP ARTICLE
The news of Percy Weasley's promotion has finally made it out into the public, though many already suspected this was the case. The supporters of the Weasley's in high positions at the Ministry are thoroughly pleased, claiming that these former (though, most still are) Order of the Phoenix members will save us all from the Knights. Some are disappointed, wondering why they or their loved ones haven't had the shot at a high position like the Weasleys and Potters have. Whatever you may feel, never fear, the Daily Prophet is here with some answers that may change your opinion.
We at the Daily Prophet were privileged enough to find out this interesting turn of events last night. We were also lucky enough to obtain an interview with Percy Weasley himself, who seemed over-enthused to talk to us.
DP: Good morning, Mr. Weasley. I hope you are comfortable... Okay, so. After Abel Croakers sudden departure from the position, how do you feel taking his place?
PW: I feel confident, sir. Mr. Croaker was a good man and his shoes will be hard to fill, but I believe I will be able to do adequately. It is an honour to have been promoted to such a position and I am thrilled to work the Minister and the others who we will be working closely with. I know people will be watching me closely and that's good for them, they should be pleasantly surprised though by my work -- I hope.
DP: Good to hear... How do you feel about the peoples concern for what Kingsley Shacklebolt has in store?
PW: I believe their concern is not wrong in the slightest. Shouldn't the wizarding world as a whole have concern for what actions the Ministry takes to better or worsen their society? I believe they should. As a child, I did not question the Ministry and that caused me many losses in friendships and rifts between loved ones, who had the common sense to question their safety and the authority leading them -- and rightly so, though I did not realize it at the time. However, this time around, I fully understand the concern and I hope to do my best to make all witches and wizards feel content with our decisions at the Ministry of Magic.
DP: Okay, well, Mr. Weasley... Can you honestly tell us if there are any questionable ideas going on behind closed doors? The people are worried and the rumours are spreading like dragon pox. Can you truthfully tell the people that these ideas will help us all?
PW: I'm sorry to say that I am a bit out of the loop with these rumours. I don't know what exactly is being discussed that we're planning, but I can assure you -- we're doing our best and nothing we have in mind is going to put people to harm. We are only thinking of ways to better everyone's safety. The ideas we have I would never deem as 'questionable'. They are strong plans that are being thoroughly thought over and discussed and basically torn to pieces as we figure out the best way to go about what we want to do. We have Heads from each department looking over these proposals and they are all giving their thoughts and feelings on it and suggesting new ideas. Nothing will be put forth that isn't approved by the majority of the Ministry. We are doing everything in our power to help the people.
DP: In what way are you planning on handling this position differently than your predecessor?
PW: Hmm. That's a difficult question to answer, sir. I do think Mr. Croaker was a very intelligent, highly reliable man, so I do not want anyone thinking I did not approve of him. I did -- very much so. I'm not certain on what exactly I will do differently, but I do know that Mr. Croaker refused to talk to the people. Which is something I wasn't necessarily fond of. People are getting antsy and want to know what is going on in our society. Which is perfectly acceptable. So I can say for sure, that I will speak out to the wizarding world more often than Mr. Croaker did. As you can see I have already started on that by participating in this interview.
DP: Let's certainly hope you keep your word, Mr. Weasley. How long have you had your sights set on this position? Surely, you must have been considered from quite some time? Was this discussed privately between you and Kingsley?
PW: To be honest, sir, I've had a high up position like this in my dreams since I was a young boy still at Hogwarts. I have always wanted to work for the Ministry and to have a position of authority. It's been a long-term goal of mine and I am glad to have finally reached it. I believe I was considered for the position for quite some time, but how long exactly I am not sure. I know that Croaker had mentioned leaving several times to the Minister and I was approached about it several months ago. Nothing real big, don't pitch a fit just yet -- I was not offered the position, merely asked if I was interested when the time came by Kingsley Shacklebolt himself. Yes, the conversation was private, but I wouldn't doubt that he asked several other candidates of well, which is not business to know who else was considered. Of course, I said yes to the offer, knowing full well that it may never happen at all. I wasn't expecting it to be so soon, actually. I figured that to even at least be considered was an honour and if Mr. Croaker truly did abandon his position, then I would have at least been a runner up. Being the winner was quite a pleasure.
DP: So Mr. Croakers abrupt leave was expected then?
PW: Somewhat yes. I do not know the reasons why, so please do not ask me, but I know he expressed interest in leaving to Kingsley several times. Mr. Croaker has been a long-time friend of the Minister, so it does not surprise me that they may have had long, in-depth conversations about his leaving. It was expected, most certainly, though the expected time was questionable. He left sooner than I thought that's for sure, though I am unsure if Kingsley was surprised.
DP: How does your family feel about this promotion? Your wife and children? Are they nervous for your well-being, since you were recently threatened by the Knights, no?
PW: My wife is thrilled. She's never been anything less than supportive and she's been absolutely wonderful to me during this. I have discussed with her before my dreams and goals for obtaining high ranks at the Ministry and when I said about a year ago that I was getting too old to be considered for anything, my Audrey told me to never give up hope. Now look at me, I'm the undersecretary to the Minister and I attribute some of that to my wifes support and confidence in me. As for my daughters, I regret to say that I had not much time to discuss this with them. My eldest, Molly, is out of Hogwars and I expect her to come to my doorstep and berate me for not telling her... well, I wouldn't be surprised if my little Lucy sent a Howler, honestly. I'm sure that both of them are happy for me and I would like to request that the media leave my daughters alone.
DP: What do you think the Knights next move will be and how will you and the Minister counter it?
PW: I cannot say for sure, sir. Their moves are sporadic. We cannot pinpoint a pattern anywhere. They've killed muggles, muggleborns, squibs, aurors, Ministry officials, themselves... We've no idea what to expect from them. We do not know their plans of attack, we do not know where they are headed next. The best we can do is keep fighting back and protecting everyone as much as we can. Hopefully, with these new ideas that the Ministry is formulating, we will become one step closer to beating them.
DP: Back to the subject of goals really quick, what do you think the Knights of Walpurgis goal is? What are they aiming for? Can you tell us what you suspect, Mr. Weasley?
PW: I cannot say for sure, sir. I am not at liberty to discuss our suspicions at the moment.
DP: Not even just one theory?
PW: No sir, I cannot.
DP: And what about the Order of the Phoenix then? It is no secret that the organization that has been around for quite some time is back in action. Can you give us an updated report about what goes on there, what they have in store for the Knights?
PW: I cannot discuss that either. I will say that, yes, we are still around and yes, we are working on plans as well, but none of these plans are going against the Ministry and all will be or have been run by the Minister himself. The Order is just another branch of witches and wizards fighting against evil.
DP: We appreciate you meeting with us today, Mr. Weasley and we'll be hoping for good things from you.
PW: Thank you sir, it was no problem. I promise, you will see improvement soon enough.
