Katie hadn't returned to Romania. She hadn't even sent an owl. It had been six days. It had been six horrible, awful days. Everything had come to a head when Augustus had implied that they would follow her right back to Thomas and turn him against her. She couldn't risk that. She had already betrayed Brian and knew that they might be turning him against her. She hadn't eaten and she'd barely slept. She was curled up in a booth, having wandered London like a lost hobo. She had stayed in overnight restaurants. She had no money, she wasn't even sure if who she was was right anymore. She couldn't go home to Thomas. She couldn't put him at risk.

He was just a baby and he was all she had left. She wouldn't lead the Death Eaters to him and have him turned into some sick, twisted little monster. He didn't deserve that. Charlie would take care of him. She felt that ache well in her chest as the tears welled up in her eyes again. She couldn't see him anymore. She felt that panic rising in her chest and her own mind racing as to what would happen to them.
