Pregnancy concerns; St Mungos [HJ, DA, HA, EM, MS, GP]
WHO: Hestia, Dominic, Hannah, Ernie, Miles, Gideon
WHERE: St Mungos
WHEN: Wednesday, 14 June, 2000; evening
SUMMARY: An otherwise uneventful pregnancy suddenly turns uneventful. IN-PROGRESS THREAD.
RATING: PG-13

It was indigestion, it had to be. Hestia had been repeating that like a mantra since before she'd stepped into St Mungos earlier, but it was getting harder in waiting to see a Healer and having the pains still persist no matter which way she shifted. Though she wasn't about to admit it to anyone hovering in the hallway – and Merlin were there enough of them hovering, who knew she'd collect a crowd in needing to see a healer? – she was scared. Getting past the mark where she'd lost her first child had felt like the defining point of this pregnancy, and everything from there would be fine. It had been, even, until now.

"You are going to stay put, mister, do you hear me?" she said, rubbing one hand over her rounded stomach before lifting her head at the sound of the door opening.

Part of Gideon was always going to feel like Hestia's trainer, even though she was a grown woman with idiot trainees of her own now. He didn't like to see her hurting, and he wanted to make it stop, so right now he was hoping that this was just a matter of an upset stomach.

Coming into the room where Hestia was still waiting to see a Healer, Gideon sighed and tried for a joke. "What's that brilliant minister been feeding you to make your stomach protest so much, Jones?"

Seeing it was Gideon, Hestia relaxed fractionally, but at the same time grew more unsettled because the healer was taking so long.

"Absolute rubbish, apparently, Alexander." She wasn't good at her job by making little mistakes, so while adjusting to calling him 'Alexander' or 'Wyatt' over the last few months was strange, it was something she had done because it was necessary. Besides, it was a tiny trade off for Gideon Prewett being alive and back in her life.

"Did you see a healer out there, or do I have to send another Howler off?"

"You're sick, I'll send the Howlers for you." Feeling a little helpless as to what to do to make the Healers come faster--and thinking that dragging one in by the ear might not be the best idea, Gideon shoved his hands into his pockets to keep from acting on his instincts to make something happen.

"I asked just before I came in," He said, his voice a little more gentle than normal, a sure sign that he was worried. "They said a healer would be in soon, and I know that your rabid trainees outside are going to do something if they don't own up." He went to take a seat, giving Hestia a once over. She'd done well for herself, both with her job as a trainer as well as her personal life...now all Gideon could do was hope that the news she was about to get wouldn't be bad.

"Merlin, I feel so special," Hestia joked back at him over him being the one to send the Howlers. She could tell he was worried, even after all these years, even with the strange new face, and she was touched by it, but it also didn't help her own fears.

After glancing to the door, assured that no one was entering immediately, she looked up at Gideon.

"Does this get easier," she said, gesturing to her stomach, "or is this conditioning for when he's here wailing because his nappies are soaked and he's hungry, all while we're both running on absolutely no sleep?"

It wasn't a telling question, even if they'd been overheard, so she felt safe in asking it.

"I've heard it does, but to be honest, not really." He lowered his voice to an almost conspiratorial tone. No one was in the room yet, but talking about Risa as his daughter, or even alluding to it, was something he thought best done quietly. "At least, not in my case. If it wasn't worrying about M--" Worried, even here when it was just the two of them, of saying Mory's name in the public place, Dean quickly cut himself off. "It's hard when they're in there, it's hard when you're up to your ears in dirty nappies, it's hard when they get older and you realize they're going to have friends and people who don't like them, it's hard when they get older and start going on dates and getting blokes eyeing them--"

Gideon trailed off, laughing quietly to himself. "Well, I guess you got a break there. Raising girls are harder."

For a moment he was quiet, thoughtful, and then he went to peak out the door again. "Bloody hell, what does someone have to do to get a Healer around here? You'd think a big, high class Auror like you could get some special treatment, Jones."
