Plans going awry; DE hideout [MY, HA, RL, BBL]
WHO: Morgandy, Hannah, Rodolphus, Bellatrix, NPC DE Selwyn
WHERE: yet another DE hideout
WHEN: Saturday, 22 January, 2000; evening
SUMMARY: Mory catches Selwyn making another attempt, Rodolphus returns to have another evening with Hannah and several plans are destined to fall apart. IN-PROGRESS THREAD.
RATING: PG-13

A tray in hand, Mory made her way back to the room Hannah was being kept in, mind racing as always. It hadn't really slowed down since she had been called in to 'babysit' Hannah and been left on her own to find a way to extract Hannah without getting all of them killed, as she couldn't owl anyone without alerting Rodolphus, Bellatrix or one of the other Death Eaters. At this point, Mory was facing the reality that she would likely have to botch the transfer to the new hideout in the morning, there was no other way.

It really had to do with her worries about Hannah. There were her worries about Rodolphus at the center of that, of course, as he spent far too much time with Hannah to be termed normal for him, let alone once purist tendencies were added in. She had little freedom to talk with Hannah, needing constantly to play her role unless certain they would not be interrupted, but Hannah's views about Rodolphus were what worried her most of all. There had been little she could say to counter it without upsetting Hannah, so she had done so less than she wanted.

Finding someone nearly at the door only added to her unrest. "Selwyn, what the hell are you doing back here?" she demanded, sliding the tray onto a table in the hallway so her hands were free. Though petite, she did not back down as she drew close and his height made him tower over her.

Selwyn had not particularly appreciated Lestrange's orders to stay away from the pretty Mudblood. It wasn't as though she were anyone of consequence, she was just another little mutt, no better than a stray animal, and he didn't see what would be so wrong about him having a few moments to enjoy her. He intended to remedy the situation as soon as she was alone.

He almost thought that he had an opportunity, and then Yaxley came out of the woodwork and ruined anything. It wasn't important, Yaxley was quite lovely in a far too assertive way, and she would do nicely.

"I was just looking out for the prisoner." He said, smiling at her darkly. His eyes swept over her, taking in ever detail of her small frame. "What the hell are you doing here?"

This was far from Mory's favourite person. He was creepy and Gideon would likely kill him if he ever learned how Selwyn looked at her, but he was also easily dealt with because she knew she outclassed him in every conceivable way, magic to wit. Hands on her hips, she gave him a disgusted look, as though his question was one only an idiot would have asked.

"Doing my assignment, which is to keep pricks like you, specifically the pricks of pricks like you, away from the prisoner. Get out of here, Selwyn, or I'll have to remove you myself."

Selwyn laughed, quite amused by this little minx trying to act so large and intimidating. He wasn't afraid of any woman, least of all one only little bigger than a kitten.

"You're gorgeous when you try to act ferocious, love," He rested his hand on her back, though the moment he put it there it instantly started drifting lower. "Certainly that's not all necessary."

Oh, for Salazar's sake. Mory had made it clear a long time ago she had no interest in the male Death Eaters, something this fool would have been more than aware of. Which annoyed her. Being annoyed generally only ended one way with these fools, and that was how it happened this time as she drew her wand and jammed it into his ribs.

"All right, so you want your hand removed too?" she asked between gritted teeth.

Selwyn gasped quietly in surprise at the feel of her wand jabbing into him, but then he waggled his eyebrows mischievously. "I could remove my hand from there..." He looked pointedly at her breasts, making it more than clear where he intended to move it to. "Come on, Yaxley, a gorgeous woman like you shouldn't be alone at night, you'll become a frigid bitch. Perhaps you will let me in to see the prisoner and I could entertain you both at once."

Oh, that was it. Mory was not about to be part of his wanking fantasies, and she sure as hell wasn't about to be part of anything occurring in the real world. "I meant removing your had from your arm, just as I'm about to do with other parts of your body and the place they are connected to," she said, looking down pointedly before drawing back her wand just enough to fire off a warning hex.

"Now go away, Selwyn, far, far away from this room."

Selwyn growled. There was something adorable about an assertive woman, but really this was taking it far too far. Tempted though he was to bend her over his knee and show her how to behave, he decided to save it for another time. Lestrange was likely to show up any moment, and really, that was the last thing he needed just now.

"You'll be asking for me later, love, and when you are, I'll be back." Turning smartly, he walked back out the corridor, nearly running into Lestrange on is way out.

Speak of the Devil

"Well hello, Rodolphus. Going to check on the filthy Mudblood?"

Rodolphus wasn't certain what came over him. He had simply been comforting Hannah as he had done often of later to gain her trust, then they had moved to sitting and talking as usual, all part of establishing a rapport, but more and more of later this innate goodness of this child of Abbott's had left him confounded. To corrupt her, he needed to combat it, but as the days pressed on, he began to understand it was a force he couldn't taint, couldn't alter and, ultimately, couldn't fight. For as much as he could be considered irrevocable evil, she was the counter to that. She continued to faithfully believe he was more than he seemed and yet, he could do nothing with that to bend her to true corruption. She was somehow an embodiment of a power he would never understand and, just as he had been drawn to other power before, he was twistedly drawn to this.

He would never be able to explain it later, he only knew as they sat there, her face upturned to his, her lips parted slightly as she watched him for a reaction to whatever she had just said, she had become temptation. A siren song of something he would never know and never understand and, for a moment, he wanted to connect to that power.

His arms around her tightly slightly as he lowered his head, focused more on that image of her as something powerful than Hannah herself, thus paying to heed to her expression as she realized what he was doing and tried to move her head back.

Bellatrix couldn't explain what it was that made her want to go check on the prisoner that night. It had only been a week since her capture, but already the Abbott girl had turned her household upside down. She could see something in Rodolphus, an unexpected interest in the child, and she didn't like it. Some might claim that it was mere jealousy, that it was envy, that Bella was sad that a blonde girl young enough to be her daughter was captivating her husband's interest, but not Bella. She felt a sense of foreboding, of anger and she intended to keep a close eye on Hannah Abbott before foreboding turned into disaster.

When she pushed open the door to the prisoner's room, what met her was near disaster. Rodolphus was looking down at her, his arms around her, his head leaning in to kiss the blonde minx though thankfully for them both Hannah tried to lean her head back. Her breath caught in her throat, Bellatrix watched them silently for a slit second, everything hanging in the balance, and then Rodolphus's lips brushed over Hannah's.

"Pleased to see you enjoying yourself with the prisoner, Rodolphus." Her voice was cold, full of a icy sort of fury as her mind tried to decide what to do. Normally she would just kill the whore who drew her husband's undue attention, or make her pay dearly in a way more painful than death, but Rodolphus had never been attracted to Mudbloods before. Somehow that made things even worse, because not only was he kissing some pretty blonde young thing when he thought that his wife was not looking, he was attracted to the very thing they had fought their whole lives to eradicate. "When you're finished with your whore, you might be interested to know that..." She made a small huff of disgust, unable to remember the things that she had planned to tell Rodolphus when they saw one another again. "Never mind," She gave them both a chilly smile. "I wouldn't want you to leave her unsatisfied." Turning, she whirled without even bothering to close the door and stomped down the hall.

Bellatrix's voice made Rodolphus start as though hit in the back with a hex. He let go of Hannah abruptly, as though removing contact with her would clear his mind. Hannah herself slid back, but her expression now also went ignored by Rodolphus. His gaze had moved to Bellatrix, or rather, her back as she departed.

What had he done, or nearly almost done? What was wrong with him? These were questions he could not answer, as trying to find the answers was an act he knew he could not see through to completion. Rising, he moved quickly out of the room and snapped his fingers at Morgandy, who was seated outside the door reading.

"Yaxley, your duties," he growled, moving off without looking back. The woman knew what to do, right now he had to catch up with Bellatrix. He couldn't think about what had happened, not as it had happened. No, there were better explanations for this.

"Bella, stop, come back here," he coaxed, his long strides eating up the space between them despite the speed of her agitated pace. When he finally drew even with her, he reached out, surprisingly gentle despite his strength, and brought them face to face.

"Bella, mon ange de morte, it was all a game with her, you can't be upset at some play acting," he said, voice a soft rumble as he stroked his hands up her arms and then back down. He made it not be a lie, at least on the surface of his mind where his denial was so deep at what had occurred. He had convinced himself in the time it took to catch her that it had been an act all along, that he had only 'sacrificed' himself for the furthering of the plan.

"Your ange de morte?" Bellatrix whirled away from him, full of fire and fury. "It appears that you find yourself attracted to a different sort of angel now, Rodolphus, because I can tell when you're toying with them, and that was no game." Her hand flexed, reaching for her wand but even in her most angered state, she was not ready to hex her own husband, not yet. No there, would be punishment, painful punishment for him when she could think of it, but she wouldn't curse him. "Would you play act her all the way into the bed, all the way to that blasted center?" She made it into their room, and, instead of magically striking at him, she picked up a spare pair of his shoes and threw them at his chest. "Get out of my sight, Rodolphus."

Even as she fought with him, Bella was trying to figure out what to do. Killing the girl was always an option, yes, but somehow that absolved Rodolphus of all of his sins, and that wasn't something she wanted just now. The man who she slept with when she thought her husband dead was killed, and her time with him became nothing more than an unpleasant dream. She didn't want that for Rodolphus, she didn't want him to forget how he had wooed his pretty little Mudblood with his wife in the same house. No, some other option would have to be used, but what? She couldn't have Rodolphus turning into Dominic Abbott and having a litter of charming but disgusting half breeds, she couldn't have him making eyes at another woman while she was still around, and she couldn't let him forget his lessons so easily.

So what was she supposed to do?

Rodolphus laughed, long and loud, the sound his way of shaking off her accusations, softening her rage. She was wrong. He would never sleep with some little Mudblood, especially not when he had Bellatrix. He was devoted solely to her and she should know that. He, of course, didn't have any problem whatsoever with proving it to her.

Rather than retreat at the flung shoes, he advanced into the room, moving close to her, his voice almost chiding. He was attempting to cajole her out of a mood through both chiding and his usual touches and words combined, for her refused to face that this was anything other than a jealous fit.

"Bella, come now," he said quietly, reaching out to stroke a hand down her turned back, his middle finger tracing the hollow of her spine. "She's a dirty Mudblood and the traitor Abbott's daughter. You are not thinking clearly, my love."

Bellatrix shuddered, wanting to melt so much into that coaxing touch to her spine. But she couldn't. Rodolphus had made that comfort impossible for her now, damn him, and she was going to have to do something about it. "Perhaps I'll be thinking more clearly after I snog a few Mudbloods, Rodolphus, it seems to be working wonders for your judgment. Were you trying to make me feel better, to extol all of her faults, or point out that you--" The conversation was leaning dangerously close to softer emotions, like pain, betrayal, sadness, and she wouldn't go there with him now. Instead she shifted back to anger, and not just anger, but rage, the emotion that had stayed steadily with her throughout her life.

She moved out of his arms reach, staring coldly back at him. "I want you to sleep in the guest room tonight. If you're going to be bedding Mudbloods I won't have you contaminating MY bed with her filth."

Bristling just at the suggestion, Rodolphus followed her, drawing her up against him hard just as she finished, his breath brushing the back of her neck as he slid her hair aside to expose the skin. There would be no snogging of others for Bellatrix not for spite or pleasure. Anyone who ever dared be drawn in would be torn limb from limb and strung up by each piece.

"Bellatrix," he said, the faintest touch of exasperation in his tone as he lowered his head, speaking close to her skin so his breath continued to move over the back of her next in soft drafts. "I have not before, nor will I ever, bed a Mudblood. My tastes run to one woman, and one woman only. And that woman is right here, right now, and," he kisses her neck, "exquisitely tasty."

"Had."

Bella shoved him back a bit more forcefully than she had meant to, not because what he was doing felt wrong, but because it felt so good, and there was a sincere danger that if she didn't stop it early she would give in, and that would be unforgivable. Bellatrix could count on few people in her life, but she could certainly count on herself and she wasn't about to let this destroy that.

"You HAD tastes for only one woman, and now they've changed." She picked up a book off of her bedside table, a thick, older volume, and threw it at his chest, wanting him to ache and hurt and pay for all that he had ruined. Never in her marriage had she doubted that his heart was hers alone, but now a single kiss with a Mudblood had made her doubt everything. Was this game that he was playing with the Abbott girl simply that, or did it hold a note of realism? Did he really see himself as some sort of whipped dog dragged into madness by his psychotic wife?

"I said get out."

With a slightly baffled blink, Rodolphus stepped back to regain his balance from the shove, studying Bellatrix intently now as he took several more steps back. She had never been easy to deal with in one of her moods, and he could press her now, but it might only serve to inflame her anger further, and thus her irrationality. He knew her might still win her over, but there was a change she would only become overwrought and that would serve no purpose. No, after all these years, he understood when a temporary retreat was called for, but it would only be temporary.

"Fine, when you see reason in the morning, I will be waiting," he said, then turned on his heel and strode out of the room, not going to the guest room but outside, where there were no other Death Eaters to notice anything, as they would think it nothing odd to see. Rodolphus often went outside to clear his mind, practice his skills and find entertainment beyond entrapping prisoners. He might be willing to give Bellatrix her space, but he would not sacrifice his image.

Bella fought the urge to throw some insult at Rodolphus's back as he retreated. When she saw reason indeed. She picked up another book instead, hurling it the wall. Damn him to hell for this, for everything.

Several long hours were spent pacing, cursing, searching all of her knowledge of Rodolphus and their lives together for some sort of solution. She kept coming back to the same one: death. It was a simple answer to everything, it seemed, but this couldn't be simple, this couldn't be swept under the rug...but she couldn't just NOT kill the Abbott girl, she couldn't apologize to Rodolphus tomorrow and allow him to think that she had been wrong, because she hadn't. HE had.

Before she knew what she was doing, she was walking like a madwoman swiftly down the corridor that led to the prisoner's room. She didn't know what she was going to do when she got there, if she was going to torture the girl or kill her or do something differently entirely, but somehow, she was going to find the way to mend what her husband had broken with his kiss.

Throwing the door of the room open, she motioned for Yaxley, but even before the woman's protests could come out (for she could see there would be protests) she held up her hand. No...no, it was good that she should stay. It was good that there would be a witness to this. "No, Yaxley, it's fine, I need you to stay, I'll need your assistance for this."

She crept closer to the Abbott girl, who was on the bed, and looked down at her, her eyes unreadable for a moment before she decided what she had to do. Just like Dominic had his 'toys' taken away when he got out of control, her husband would learn his lesson best this way, and the fact that the Abbott girl would be out there, living and breathing and remaining every day as a reminder of Rodolphus's mistake made the plan even more appealing. But this decisive move against her husband was somewhat frightening as well, because never had she so blatantly turned on him. Then again, never had he so willfully turned his sights elsewhere. Gods, what if he had wanted the Abbott girl all along, if this plan of his had been not some genius revenge on Dominic, but the only thing that Rodolphus could mastermind to get Hannah Abbott close?

Her mind made up, she stepped closer to the bed. "Tell me, Hannah, do you want to go home? Do you really, really want to go home?"

Having been left alone, and needing to take the risk, Mory had outlined a plan for Hannah to escape if it came to that after what had occurred. She knew Bellatrix and in doing so, knew Hannah's life was now in very serious danger. It was a threat she tried to soften for Hannah's sake, though still retain the sense of seriousness and urgency. She wasn't certain she had accomplished that, given how terrified Hannah appeared, but Bellatrix's entrance forestalled another attempt at trying.

Though Mory couldn't let it show, she was aware of every movement Bellatrix made and was fully prepared to take her down to let Hannah escape if it came to that. She dearly hoped it would not, as it meant endangering her family and losing a crucial advantage over the Lestranges. She wouldn't be able to live with herself, however, if something happened to someone so clearly innocent of everything.

Hannah was terrified and there was no way to soften that, though how scared she felt was surpassed when Bellatrix entered the room. What Bellatrix was offering her was unthinkable given all she had witnessed this last week, but she couldn't deny the answer to that question was a clear as day and unable to be stifled. If it was a trap, she was helpless to avoid it.

"Y-Yes. Yes, I do," she whispered, looking up at Bellatrix with those fear-filled wide eyes..

Some of the child's blonde hair was in her face. It was apparent to Bella, how night and day different she was from the Abbott girl, how every aspect of them, from their personalities to their appearance to their wishes, couldn't be more different. She wasn't sure if it made things easier to handle or not, if she should console herself that Rodolphus had kissed her complete opposite, or want to murder him for acquiring a new taste in women.

"Then you should go home. Pretty little children such as yourself should have what you want, after all." Her words were dripping with sarcasm, but they were just words. With her decision made, she couldn't touch Hannah, couldn't lash out at her for fear that one action would lead to another and another until she couldn't stop herself from ending the seemingly innocent young woman.

She turned to Yaxley, her mouth set in a grim line. "Yaxley, I want you to get her out of here, now. Get her home, and Abbott?" She turned, giving Hannah a mild glare, because she was too mentally exhausted to muster much else. "Make sure that when they ask you, as I'm sure they will, how you escaped your evil bitch of a captor, you tell them that Bellatrix Lestrange was the one to save you. Tell everyone how much mercy I showed you, and how Rodolphus Lestrange..." she cut herself off with a sharp, strangled sound, unable even now to degrade her husband's name in front of the Mudblood and one of their own Death Eaters.

"Get her out of my sight, Yaxley, the next time I come into this room I want it empty." Turning sharply, Bellatrix started for the door.
